Caring for Mom

Mom had knee surgery over a month ago on her left knee.  Dad and Lisa have been helpful and my Grandmother also went to help in the recovery process.  So, as such, it was my turn to be able to care for mom while in a state to not be as mobile as she usually is.  Kirra and I flew into Regina early Friday morning (June 7).  It was a beautiful day with clear, blue, sunny skies and hot temperatures.  We spent the day just relaxing on the deck and visiting.  Saturday we went out with Lisa for a bit to do some shopping for her kitchen reno.  While at Home Depot mom got a scooter and boy was it ever funny watching her do u-turns around the store in the scooter.  And mom was pretty good at laughing right along with us as we just couldn't contain ourselves.  We also enjoyed a nice lunch at Earl's.  While there I tried to be as helpful as I can, ensuring that mom was resting and icing her knee and helping with the cooking, cleaning, and laundry.  I wish I could have stayed longer to do more but was glad to be there for awhile and also get her to her appts as they took the staples out and cleaned and changed the bandages.  The healing process is going well for her but it is slow.  She will need the other knee replaced as well but I am sure she doesn't want to think of that anytime too soon.
Kirra enjoyed time playing with her cousins and time cuddling Grandma.  It was nice to be able to go for a walk with Kirra and pick some lilacs to help brighten Grandma's spirits.
*PS - I realize that we are a little late on this post but better late than never.
