An overview of the trip:
We set sail on Saturday afternoon, leaving LA on the Sapphire Princess toward Mexico. The weather was nice in LA but a cold front was moving in. The waters were calm although Mom and Dad laughed when I commented that even before we left port I could feel a slight motion.
Ensenada is only 300kms from LA so it didn't take us long to arrive in Bahia De Todos Santos Bay where the city of Ensenada lies. Temperatures were cool, only 21C. I stayed on the boat that day and enjoyed a quiet day. A manicure at the spa, thermal steam room, and some time by the pool to enjoy the sun.
Sunday night was Daryl and Leanne's Anniversary celebration. We had supper at the Salisbury Steak House. The steak was delicious, the wine went down easy, and the celebration was enjoyed by all. In total there were 22 of us there to celebrate this special occassion. We continued the celebration with some dancing at one of the nightclubs on ship.
Monday was another day at sea and I took advantage of another down day with a pedicure, massage, and relaxation in the thermal steam room. I also got in a workout which felt great.
Tuesday we arrived in Cabo in the early morning. Mom, Dad, and I took a boat to Cabo and enjoyed a day of exploring Cabo. We did a little shopping at the market and enjoyed a snack of nachos and margaritas while there. Monkey Business was a little bar that made their margaritas with fresh lime juice. Temperatures were 27C so the drink was perfect. We took our time in Cabo but got back in time for one of the formal evenings on the ship. I enjoyed supper that evening with Lindsey, Brent, Ash, and Danika. Later on we met up with our parents to see a show.
Wednesday was another beautiful day of 27C and Mom, Dad, and I went into Cabo again just to enjoy being off the boat and taking it easy. We didn't have long today as the boat was set to return to LA at 4:30 that afternoon. As they headed back, we rounded the beautiful coastline west of Cabo San Lucas before setting northwesterly toward the Baja California coastline towards Los Angeles. While leaving we got a glimpse of some whales.
Thursday and Friday were both days spent at sea. The temperature took a dip returning to around the 20 degree mark. It sure felt cool and the skies were cloudy with little sun peaking out. These days were spent with more time in the steam room, at the gym, and relaxing with a couple of naps and cuddled up with a good book. Thursday was American Thanksgiving and another formal night on the ship. The whole group of us went out for supper. I had turkey, despite the fact that it wasn't our thanksgiving. But, they served the turkey without mashed potatoes. Who has ever heard of that? At least they included the dressing and cranberry sauce. The food on the ship was wonderful. At every meal we ordered soup/salad, appetizers, main course, dessert, and wine. And the service was very good. Whenever I went back to my room, it seemed they had been in there tidying up or turning down the bed for me. Pampering = no cooking or cleaning!
Friday night was going to be a quiet night and earlier to bed with an earlier morning and traveling the next day. However, we all managed to have supper at The Savoy Dining Room that night for a delicious Prime Rib meal. We also celebrated my birthday with everyone singing "Happy Birthday!" and a special dessert that wasn't featured on the menu. It was a nice evening.
Saturday morning we arrived into port in LA before 7:00am. It didn't take them long to get all 3000+ people off the ship. I was impressed with how orderly and quickly it was. I was grateful for getting off as the couple days heading back toward LA had been very wavey on the boat. But, when I got off, I could still feel the motion.
Saturday we all headed to LAX to head home. I was looking forward to getting home to see my family. Terry did well while I was away but was grateful that I was home to help out. I was pleased to come home to lots of hugs and kisses from the kids who ran right into my arms as soon as they saw me at the airport, almost knocking me over. And to make my birthday even more special, Jaret bought me flowers and Terry had the house cleaned before I arrived home.
I had a wonderful time away with my parents. Thank you Mom and Dad. I really enjoyed the time we were able to spend together. It was such a relaxing time away.
