All four of us drove out to Humboldt on Friday, July 23rd. Of course, the trip to Humboldt is not complete without stopping for lunch in Saskatoon at Fuddrucker's. It has become somewhat of a tradition to us and is the reason why we can get up so early to leave on our trip. We spent the weekend in Humboldt. The weather was sunny and warm so Terry enjoyed a game of golf with his Brother and Dad on Saturday morning. Jaret got to ride for a bit on the golf cart with Grandpa, which he thought was fun. Saturday night we went to a Family Bar-b-que for Justin and Vanessa (Terry's Nephew - to celebrate their wedding in Hawaii in June). Afterward we got the kids to bed and watched the Rider game. Sunday we enjoyed more time with family when we went to Terry's aunt's house for lunch. Sunday evening, after supper with Terry's parents and Kim and Jackie, we did some hot tubbing (is that a word) at Kim and Jackie's place. It was a beautiful evening.
Monday before Terry flew out of Saskatoon, we went with Terry's parents to The Berry Barn. We hadn't been there for years and were really craving some Saskatoon Berry pie - it was delicious. Terry flew out later that afternoon. It was a hard good bye as Jaret didn't want Daddy to go home without us.
I spent a couple of very short days in Saskatoon. It was wonderful to stay with my Grandmother and spend some time with her each evening. Tuesday I was able to visit with my girlfriends, Kelli and Sandra, and their girls. It was disappointing that my friend Andrea couldn't make it as expected, but we still had a nice visit. Wednesday morning before leaving for Regina, I was able to spend time with my friends Ruth and Tracy and their kids. The visits are too few and always too short.
Wednesday night I got a babysitter for Jaret and Kirra. I was surprised that my friend Andrea who now lives in Regina, has a daughter who is babysitting age. I was thrilled though as it meant I had a babysitter for the kids so I could go to the Bon Jovi Concert. The concert was awesome and I am so glad I had the opportunity to go. Thanks Mom and Dad! And thanks Emma for babysitting! One of the highlights from the concert was a new song he played that night - This Is Our House. It is a great new song and he even took footage during the concert for a video. He also gave permission for the Roughriders to use the song at their home games. Fabulous concert!
Thursday and Friday were spent with my sister and her kids. The weather was hot and sunny and so we enjoyed the pool in her backyard. Saturday I had Emma babysit again, while I went with my sister and parents to the Rider game. It was a hot day. And was especially hot sitting in the bleachers on the sunny side in +30 heat. Great game with a win over Hamilton. Friday and Saturday night we enjoyed sitting around the fire in my parents backyard. It was the first time Jaret had ever sat around a fire and roasted marshmallows. What does that say about us being city people? Jaret loved it but even though he roasted the marshmallows, he never ate them roasted, only straight out of the bag.
Sunday our family drove to Strasbourg for a family reunion. It was nice to see family that you often don't get to see. Some of whom you know to chat with but others that you really don't know at all. Jaret loved swimming in the lake and going for a canoe ride with Grandpa. Although, Dad and I did not do well in the Botche Ball tourney. But, to our defense, Jaret was also on our team and was helping us. It was a nice day of reconnecting with family.
Monday I drove back to Calgary with the kids. It was a long drive but they both did very well. Even if Jaret is at the stage where he asks if we are there yet, every half hour or so. Both Kirra and Jaret were so excited to see Terry after being away for a week. It was good to be home - even if all the landscaping wasn't yet completed - lol.
