Fleeting Moments

The days seem to be fleeting by and I wonder what has been happening that has been keeping us busy and seeing the days pass by. Then I reflect and realize that it is just life with kids. Life seems so short and the time really does go by way too quickly. It is so important to treasure and cherish each moment spent with those we love and care about - whenever we have the opportunity.
The weather this summer hasn't been great, which is okay because we only have dirt that comprises our backyard. While Kirra sleeps in the afternoon, Jaret and I spend time inside playing together - usually quiet games and cuddles on the couch. I love that Jaret is such a cuddler (is that even a word?). Our yard is slowly coming together; the patio is completed beneath the deck with stamped concrete. It turned out well and I think we will be happy with it. I guess we will see when we actually spend some time on it - once the rest of the yard is finished. Terry plans to work on the yard while the kids and I spend some time in Saskatchewan next week. Hope all goes smoothly and he can get lots accomplished. I would love to come back to a yard that is almost completed so that we can enjoy it while we still have some summer.
What else is new? We had my parents here this past weekend and enjoyed our visit with them. We went to Jubilations Dinner Theatre on Saturday night and had fun watching Law and Order - Canadian Files. Sunday the boys floated the Bow while the girls shopped. And of course, we watched the Rider game on Saturday afternoon. It was difficult to see our team in their retro Red uniforms - we felt like we were watching the Stamps play. Nice that they pulled off another win and are at 3 and 0.
The kids are doing well. Jaret went to summer camp at church a couple of weeks ago. It was in the mornings and they were kept busy with games, singing, story time, and crafts. He was in swimming lessons this week. He told me that he doesn't know why swimming lessons are so quick and he wishes it was longer. When I asked him his favourite part of swimming lessons, he said, "Everything!" And when I asked him his absolute favourite part he said, "Putting my face under the water." He is a little fish in water.
Jaret has taken to carrying around a little stuffed puppy recently and wants to take this friend everywhere. Kirra also likes this puppy and at times tries to take it from him. One day, Jaret went up to his room to get another puppy he had and then asked Kirra which one she wanted. She picked the smaller one, rather than the one Jaret always carries around. I heard Jaret say, "See Kirra, now we both have a puppy to carry around. I will let you keep that one." It was so sweet and melted my heart. He is so kind and caring toward his little sister - such a wonderful big brother.
Kirra is doing well. She had her first hair cut this past Tuesday. The lady who cut it was really quick and did a great job, despite Kirra crying and moving around so much. The hairdresser even put a little ponytail in her hair and sparkles in her bangs. Kirra pulled the pony out by the time we got home, but I put it back in so I could at least get a couple of pictures. Kirra has also learned how to blow kisses, kind of. She puts her hand to her open mouth - and there it stays. But it is a start and melts your heart knowing she is showing you affection in her own special way. She also loves giving high fives and will go around and give everyone in the room a high five. Sometimes she will do this, even if you don't have your hand up ready, and then she ends up hitting you, not understanding what she has done. Kirra has also mastered going up the stairs and finds this game lots of fun, especially when she can't get down and Mommy comes and scoops her up, carrying her back to the living room. We will have to work on teaching her how to come down the stairs safely. But, most of the time, we have a bench blocking the stairs so she can't climb whenever she wants.
So, that is life around here these days. We are enjoying the moments and all that they bring. My next post will be when we return from Saskatchewan with pictures of our trip.
