Christmas In Saskatchewan

We traveled to Saskatchewan to spend Christmas with our families. We left early Thursday morning (with a short detour by Starbuck's). It was a beautiful morning - the sunrise painted the sky the most amazing colours and the snow and tree frost sparkled in the sun. The roads were clear and we made it to Saskatoon in good time. Although, not good enough as we had planned to eat a late lunch at Fuddrucker's. We got there at 3:10 and Fudd's closed at 3:00 that afternoon. It was a major disappointment. We got to Humboldt and enjoyed a candlelight Christmas Eve service at the Alliance church. Afterwards we returned to Geoff and Nettie's to open Christmas gifts. Jaret took care to ensure that Kirra had a gift to open and would then proceed to help her open them, since she was too little to do it herself. She did enjoy all the wrapping paper this Christmas though, which we knew she would and was so cute to watch. Christmas Day was quiet. Terry's brother, Kim, and his family joined us later in the day and we had Christmas Dinner together. There was visiting and lots of food to be had.
We then spent a couple of days in Regina with my family but my mom was not well the whole time and has since been hospitalized (again) with more tests to be run over the next couple of days.
On the way to Saskatchewan Terry told me that for Christmas, he planned to get me an all-inclusive trip to Mexico and even had my mom lined up to babysit. However, he didn't end up booking anything so I didn't get a trip. It turns out it is a good thing though as mom likely wouldn't have been able to babysit beginning January 9th. We were able to spend time with my Grandma Mary, sister, and her kids while in Regina as well. One evening Terry and I even went out to a late movie which we haven't done in ages so that was a nice treat.
Christmas went by in a bit of a blur and too quickly. We were very packed down coming home. It is always difficult to travel so far with young children. They did fairly well but the last half hour of the trip home was difficult due to Kirra crying and the heavy fog, combined with wind, blowing snow, and icy roads. Will we do it again next year? Maybe we will enjoy Christmas in our new house and have our family out this way! Hope everyone enjoyed their Christmas!
