We drove to Regina on Wednesday night. The kids travelled so well. I think that is the best time to travel with two, little kids; however, Terry was pretty tired as we pulled into my parents around one in the morning. Leaving an hour or two earlier might help though. A highlight for Jaret on the way was his tour of Starbuck's. One of the barrista's saw that Jaret was being a little difficult and took it upon herself to give him a tour of the Starbuck's and he loved every minute of it. It was so kind of her and a nice way to break up the long trip.
We spent Thursday to Saturday in Regina. While there we celebrated all the October birthdays - my sister's, dad's, Jaret's and Terry's. We went out to The Diplomat on Thursday night and had a wonderful meal. Friday night we had our Thanksgiving turkey dinner and Grandma Mary came for the day. We also had birthday cake that night. Jaret loves angel food cake, but I'm not sure if he loves it for the cake or for the whipped cream (right out of the can)! While in Regina, Kirra also tried out her jolly jumper for the first time and loved bouncing around.
On Saturday we drove to Humboldt and made it in time to enjoy watching the Rider game while having a pizza supper. We had more cake to celebrate Jaret's birthday and he even experience the bumps for the first time. Sunday evening we had another Thanksgiving meal. Monday morning before we left, Kim, Jackie and Justin came over so taht Kim could make his special pancakes for Jaret. Last time it was Mickey Mouse, this time a dinosaur. We ate so well while home! Love those home cooked meals.
On Monday we drove to Saskatoon so that Terry could catch a ride home to Calgary. But before that we had lunch at Fudd's. I was also able to spend a fabulous hour and a half with a couple of my girlfriends and my grandmother; it was so great! I drove back with the kids to spend a couple of days in Regina.
That time went by much too quickly and also ended with my mom being in the hospital. She had been sick the week before and was having some difficulty breathing. By this point it had gotten quite bad so it was insisted that we go to emergency. Both Kirra and Jaret were with me and did really well sitting and waiting while mom waited to be seen and treated. They did some blood work, ECG, CT Scan, and a chest x-ray. They saw a mass in her lung which they treated as a clot. They put her on heparin and it seemed to do the trick. They also gave her an iron transfusion as they were concerned about her anemia. We are so thankful that all turned out well as I hate to think what might have happened had a clot in the lung went untreated. Follow-up will be done with some specialists over the next couple of months.
That ended our time in Saskatchewan. I drove home with the kids on Thursday so that we could be home to celebrate Jaret's fourth birthday. But, that will be the next blog entry...
