Thankful Heart

As we are now into October and Thanksgiving is just around the corner, I have been contemplating the things in my life that I am grateful for and know just how blessed I am. Jaret just made a book at pre-school about all the things he is thankful for. As we discussed these things and tried to find pictures, we had some interesting conversations. His first thing he is thankful for is God. "And Mom, God created himself; isn't He AMAZING?!" Then he commented, "You know Mom, we can't just take a picture of God though." The things he says make me laugh. I told him that we would try to find a picture on the computer of God. He also said that he is thankful for all the things God created, "For the mountians, the stars in the sky, the moon, the sun, the clouds, water to swim in, rocks to play with, sand..." And on and on he went. He also did say that he was thankful for family, friends, and our house too - the one we live in now and the one we are building (we check progress regularly and it is slow). The other day he said, "We're happy because they put the floor in our garage. That was nice of those men."
I am so very thankful for my growing relationship with God. I am thankful each day for my family - for Terry, Jaret, and Kirra. I am thankful for good health. I am grateful for the time that I am able to be home with Jaret and Kirra and enjoy this time of being a full-time Mom. I am learning to not measure a good day through productivity of getting things accomplished but in the productivity of enjoying all the special, everyday moments with my beautiful children. Just from this I could feel truly blessed but there is so much more.
My extended family who shows love and support - we are looking forward to spending Thanksgiving in Saskatchewan with both of our families. Friends - near and far - although I often wish that so many of my friends weren't so far away (from Saskatoon to Edmonton to Chilliwack to Brisbane). But I am thankful for the wonderful friendships I have, even when distance separates us and busy and hectic lives don't allow for regular visits in person or on the phone.
I am thankful as well for our home and the home we are building. Although as Dr. Phil said the other day, "Home is truly where the heart is." Now don't go thinking that I have thrown all productivity out the window and sit and watch Dr. Phil everyday - lol. I caught the end of one of his shows the other day that talked about finances during these tough times and the importance of learning to be content with where you are in life and not trying to fill it with things, especially things that you can't afford. A good piece of advice I thought. And so I am thankful for being content with what I have been blessed with.
I am sure that I could go on and on as I do feel very blessed in this life. It's these blessings that helps me remain optimistic and positive each day. Waking up each morning being truly grateful for my many blessings.
I hope that each of you has a Happy and Blessed Thanksgiving!
