Family Day Long Weekend

It has been a couple of weeks since I have posted so I figured it was about time. Life can get so busy and I am amazed at how quickly the days pass. Over the last couple of weeks, my mom was here to look after Jaret as his dayhome was still closed. It was nice to have her here and Jaret enjoyed the special attention and the outings he and Grandma had together. It was difficult to see my mom go. My sister was thrilled to have mom back home in Regina. I reminded my sister how fortunate she is to have mom close by to help out when necessary and told her to be careful not to take her for granted or else we will work harder to get her and dad to move out west.
We were a little concerned as to how Jaret would handle being back at the dayhome after not seeing Nighat and Fatima for a month. However, he did really well and was excited to be able to see them again. The time between now and when he will be done at the dayhome is approaching fast. I plan to finish working sometime mid-April and before that even have spring break which gives us two weeks off.
Milestones - Jaret loves showering over having a bath. He likes being able to shower with Daddy mostly. But the other morning, I was finished showering and Terry wasn't quite ready to shower yet. Jaret wanted to shower so he helped me turn the water on and went in by himself. Terry did eventually join him but it was just another example of how our little boy is growing up so quickly and becoming so independent.
The long weekend has been relaxing and is exactly what we needed. One of the highlights of the weekend included exchanging Valentine gifts. Although, I will be returning Terry's as I discovered that the book I got him is one he has already read (guess I should have stuck with a gift certificate). I didn't expect anything as a few weeks ago, we ordered the kitchen table I have been wanting, but Terry surprised me with roses. And what girl would object to that?
We took Jaret to the Dino Volleyball games on Saturday night. He had fun running around with some of the kids at the top of the track, especially the girls. However, he began crying at one point and ran toward me as he was terrified of Rex the Dino mascot. It is all he has been talking about since then, "Daddy, you should buy a new dinosaur for your work that isn't so scary because he is really scary." As I was holding Jaret and he calmed down, Rex came over to say hello and even gave mom a valentine which Jaret thought was for him. It helped Jaret to like the dinosaur better but he still thinks he is scary. But true to Jaret's nature lately, he is a little fascinated by things that are scary and he kept wanting to know where the dinosaur was throughout the game.
Sunday after church, we couldn't get Jaret down for a nap. So, we went out in the afternoon to look at houses. Then we came home and made pizza. We tried to build up the fact that Jaret would be eating the pizza with us but it was quite unsuccessful. He is even more picky than I was as a child, or so my mother says. It was a battle but at one point we said that if he didn't eat any pizza, he would be going to bed early. He got up from the table and said, "I'm tired and don't want to eat my pizza so I think I will just go to bed." What kid says that? So upstairs he and I went hand in hand to get him ready for bed. He didn't fight it and was in bed and sleeping by 6:30 p.m. It felt so strange to have him sleeping so early. He did wake up around 8:00 and was hungry. We tried a piece of pizza but discovered that wasn't going to work without a battle. I guess I am a big softy and not very good at this parenting thing at times because I gave in and fed him his favourite food - rice. Doesn't this kid ever get tired of eating just rice?! He ate a whole bowl, an applesauce and some banana and then went right back to bed and slept until 8 this morning. I awoke as his little feet pitter-pattered into our room and he crawled into bed with us. I love those cuddly moments.
Today Jaret and I spent a couple of hours at Joso's. It is an indoor playground area near our community. I figured that since Terry has taken him a couple of times, it was finally my turn. Jaret loves going there and would keep saying, "Mom, I am having so much fun!" It is a great place for kids and so we have bought a family pass for a year. I am sure we will meet others for playdates regularly, especially once I am off on mat. leave. One thing we have learned about Jaret though is that he doesn't seem to be much of a leader but is more of a follower. That was noted again today as he found a little boy who was a little younger than him and would play with him by following him around, being a little copycat. He does play well with the other kids though. There was an older girl who built a tower of blocks and after she was done building it, he asked her if he could knock it over before actually just going over and knocking it over.
I had maternity pictures taken last weekend so will post those. I decided to get them done before I am really huge and feeling too uncomfortable. They turned out okay but were not really what I was hoping for. We went to KidsPhoto since I had a gift certificate to use. We will stick to LifePhoto from now where we usually get our pictures done. I think they do a much better job there and take many more pictures in lots of different poses. I have been feeling really good still. I had an appt. last week. Jaret and my mom came with me. Jaret was excited to hear the baby's heartbeat again. I will be going in for another ultrasound next week as the doctor just wants to check on everything, including the size of the baby.
Terry is doing well despite things at work being a little stressful right now. It has been keeping him busy but I really don't think there is a time at work that he isn't busy with something. If it isn't one project it is another that requires his attention. But, he is enjoying work and taking opportunity to break at lunch for a run. He is hoping to start training for a marathon and works in the perfect faculty for it; he now even has a personal trainer to help him train.
That's our life around here. It hasn't been anything too exciting. But life is good and we are enjoying the small things each day.
