Tobogganing

Our dayhome closed last Wednesday for a month as the family is attending a family wedding in Pakistan. Thursday afforded me the opportunity to stay home with Jaret and we enjoyed our day together very much. We met Auntie Shea and McKinley for lunch at Moxie's - Market Mall and then played in the Play Area for almost an hour. Jaret and McKinley had so much fun. Terry then took Friday off and with the beautiful weather and still lots of snow, introduced Jaret to tobogganing. When I got home, the report was, "Mommy, 'bogganing is sooo much fun!" Jaret was even brave enough to go down by himself. So, while I worked Open House on Saturday, Terry took him again and Sunday made it three times in a row. We needed to get it all in before our snow melted since we have been having temperatures of +10-15 recently. Tobogganing on Sunday was great for Jaret still but was not so great for Mommy, the spectator. I ended up getting knocked right off my feet by a girl who was out of control on her toboggan. I hit really hard, landing on my tail-bone, then hitting with my upper back and head. We ended the fun a little earlier than planned so that Terry could take me to the hospital to check on our baby. We got in right away and they began monitoring the baby and me for contractions. Our little girl was fine, her heartbeat strong and with lots of movement (mostly kicking at the monitors they had placed around my belly). I had no contractions so when the doctor came in she did an ultrasound to ensure everything was okay before sending us home and giving me instructions to rest for the next couple of days. We were so relieved that everything was okay. Monday came and I realized that the hit I took was harder than I intially realized as I could hardly move my neck. My upper back, neck and collarbone were and still are so sore. I also had a really bad headache as a result. When I saw the doctor today, he confirmed that our little girl is still doing fine with a strong heartbeat and lots of movement. However, he said that he thinks I got whiplash from falling so hard and that he would recommend some extra rest and a massage or two. So, who am I to disobey my doctor's orders?!
And I guess if this accident had to happen, no better time when Grandma was already here. Terry's mom arrived on Saturday night and is staying with us over the next couple of weeks to look after Jaret. He has been getting lots of attention and enjoys playing hockey with Grandma in the basement, cuddling and reading stories on the couch or watching one of his favourite shows, and just spending time being spoiled by Grandma. It will be a good couple of weeks for him!
