First Weekend of Summer

The students finished school on Friday. We wrapped things up with an Awards Night. It went very well, despite me being nervous about being the MC. Saturday we had our staff celebration in Kananskis and it was very nice. Not to mention that this time of year I feel very spoiled by the parents. Now we just have this next week to go with admin time and summer holidays begin.
With me so busy on the weekend, Terry and Jaret were able to have lots of bonding time. Terry took Jaret to Calaway Park on Saturday and they had a very enjoyable time. Jaret always does when it involves a trip to Calaway Park. The weather was beautiful on the weekend and Jaret enjoyed a couple of bike rides with Terry and Jaret and I also worked on learning to pedal on his own bike. He doesn't quite have it all figured out yet, but it is coming along - slowly.
We really see a sense of humour coming out of Jaret. Like this weekend when Jaret didn't want to eat something and Terry wasn't listening to him. Jaret looked at him, pointed his finger and said, "You listen." Then he started laughing, as did Terry. And the back and forth of finger pointing, saying the phrase you listen, and laughing began. Tonight when Jaret was in the bath tub, he discovered how funny it was to put water in his mouth and then spray it out. This began Mommy and Daddy joining in too - although with clean water from the tap! So, his humourous side and personality is coming out more and more.
He is also growing up more and more everyday and loves to be a copy cat. He likes copying Daddy especially and did so tonight while mowing the lawn right along with Daddy. It works for me - I may never have to mow the lawn! We'll just teach Jaret.
Jaret also loves to have little conversations with his stuffed animals now, especially when lying in bed at night. He'll tell me that Teddy is crying and that he needs a blankie. He will also say things like, "We're going to Saskatoon. That will be fun, hey? Then we will fly on a plane to see Uncle Mark, Auntie Shea, and Kinley in Amsterdam. Do you want to come, Teddy? It be fun." He is really starting to put more and more words into his sentences. This pays off a little more when he is in a cooperative mood and is willing to talk on the phone and respond to questions asked by the grandparents. Hard to believe that our baby boy is growing into such a little boy. Or as he puts it, "I'm not the baby. Right Mommy? I'm the big kid." How true it is! And all much too fast.
