Spring Break 2017

I love having time off. Although, Spring Break hasn't been completely without work. Terry of course is working and putting in many extra hours. And I also have taken time over Spring Break to catch up on some work as well. But the time off has allowed me to work on my own time and in the comfort of my own home. But despite work, there has been lots of time for family and memories built in the process.

During church services, Kirra has chosen to sit with us rather than go to Extreme Kids. She worships with her whole heart during the service and then does some creative art while listening to the service. At a recent service (March 25), she wanted to participate in communion. I wasn't sure she was ready but as I took time talking to her about what it means to partake in communion, she was able to communicate the meaning clearly. As a result, Kirra had her first communion which was a really special step in her faith journey.

There has been skiing! Kirra has been a little reluctant but with some coaxing (okay, some all out bribery) she has taken some lessons and has really seen some improvement. She is also really starting to like skiing which is great because we hope to spend many more days skiing in the mountains. I think Kirra is a little like her mom and she likes the conditions of spring skiing - the sunshine and the warmer temperatures. And Jaret, he is skiing circles around me. He loves to take off with Terry and find the tree runs and even conquer the black diamonds. He can't seem to get enough of skiing and would like to be out on the hill every day over Spring Break. Even Kirra has been asking to go again, partly because of the incentive but also because she admitted how much she loves skiing Roller Coaster at Sunshine. I love seeing the confidence in them as skiers. We definitely enjoyed some beautiful days at Sunshine. Even if one of the days saw me catch some powder and tumble head over heels. But, I got up and continued skiing. I just felt it for the next few days. I have to say that I am glad I wear a helmet because I hit pretty hard coming down and it could have been worse if not for my helmet.

The powder was amazing! Sunshine got 25 cm of fresh snow overnight and the skiing was incredible. Terry just got new skis and couldn't stop saying how much better they were to handle the powder.  It was a fabulous day!

The kids enjoyed some time with friends. Kirra had pizza and movie night one evening with her friend, Kaycee. It warmed my heart hearing them laugh together and then get up and dance during the movie. These are the moments that build friendships and memories for years to come.

The kids had a few play dates over break which was fun for them and allowed me to get some work done and others that gave me the opportunity to catch up with friends as well.  One morning, Jaret was able to hang out with a friend from school at Hide N' Seek play centre. They had so much fun together and it is a great place for them to burn off energy. Kirra also invited a friend, Reese, so they could play together.

I was able to enjoy a date with each of the kids during Spring Break. Kirra chose to spend an afternoon with me going for a pedicure and manicure. I love that we can do these girlie things together, all the while, being able to chat about things. I pray that the lines of communication will stay open for years to come.

Jaret would come and sit next to me on the couch every once in awhile. He would snuggle up close and plan our Date Night. Recently it was the 5 W's - Who, What, When, Where, Why.
"Obviously the who is you and I, Mom and the what is a date together. We just have to figure out the when and where. The why is because it is our date time that was part of my Valentine gift. I think part of the where should be supper at Earl's. And then something else but when?" It continued on and on and until we made the plans that ended up being a visit to Earl's and bowling. I love how excited he was over planning a date with his Mom - his first love!

We also planned a short trip to Edmonton with Terry's brother and family. We hadn't been to West Ed with the kids in years and they were so excited about the trip. We spent a day at West Ed Waterpark, an evening with family for supper, and then GalaxyLand the next day for a couple of hours.

Jaret conquered the Sky Screamer. He would have liked to do the Cyclone but he isn't heavy enough to do it so that get saved for a future trip.

Kirra had a blast in the waves and couldn't get enough of them. I loved watching how much fun they had at the waterpark.

Spring Break was full of lots of fun activities and much needed down time as well. It will be hard to get up early and begin routine again tomorrow. I have gotten accustomed to getting up and doing things on my own time and schedule. One morning I just lazed in bed listening to music and doing devotions for a couple of hours - it was wonderful. The kids have also gotten used to some lazy days. In fact, today is a pj day where they are both just building lego in the basement. Jaret was sick last night after skiing and needed a quiet day so that he can get feeling better for school. It is a short week which is nice way to ease back into routine.
