All year long, Kirra has been telling us that her favourite number is 8 and that she can't wait to turn 8. I just want time to slow down a little so that we can enjoy this season, despite how busy it can sometimes get. I love the age the kids are at. Although Kirra says that she wants to be 8 and grow up, there are moments where she also wants time to slow down. The other morning I was waking her up with kisses and hugs and she said, "Maybe I do want to stay 7 forever. Will you give me cuddles like this when I am 8?" To which I responded that I of course would give her cuddles, hugs, and kisses even when she is 8 or even 28!
Kirra began planning her birthday party way back in December, over Christmas holidays. She decided she just wanted to do it at home and that she would put together a schedule of activities. And so the planning continued, right down to her making posters to hang all around the house. She loves to colour! And so as I decorated the house, she also put her posters up - everywhere - on the front door, kitchen, the bonus room, her room. It was cute seeing her so busy hanging them and so proud of the work she had done on them. And there weren't just a few. There were dozens.
All the girls arrived and the party began. They turned on the karaoke and the singing and dancing began. One of the girls even knew how to use a cup for the cups song. They had fun! Kirra had a fashion show planned but with all the singing, food/cupcakes, gifts, candy bar, and playing, they ran out of time for the fashion show. This left Kirra a little sad and sad that her party had to come to an end, in her opinion much too soon. I think the timing was perfect - short and sweet. I am so grateful for the many friends Kirra is making and the wonderful families. It is reassuring to know that she has such kind friends.
It was right after Kirra opened her gift from Jaret that Kirra wanted to say thank you with a hug. Jaret isn't so "huggy" with his sister. So she wrestled him down so she could get a hug and a kiss from him. After all, it was her birthday so she thought it was the least her brother could do. Loved watching that moment.
Just a little excited about her gift!
Kirra bought her friends necklaces - Best Friends Forever or Forever Best Friends!
The party wasn't completely over at this point. Kaycee stayed for the sleepover part of the birthday. The girls played more, jumped on the trampoline (it was a beautiful day), followed by a pizza supper and movie night. Natalia left after the party for a church event but then arrived back some time later for the movie and sleepover. The girls kept telling me how they weren't going to get any sleep. But, they managed to settle down nicely for a movie and fell asleep around 11ish which was a little later than I anticipated. After tucking them in for the night, I was "shooed" away so that they could talk boy talk. Yikes, how old are they again? Don't grow up too fast my sweet girl!
Well, now that the girls are asleep, I guess I should get some rest as well. Morning will come early and three little girls are looking forward to waffles and bacon, and honestly, so am I! But so grateful for today - what a beautiful day that was full of memories for my sweet, little girl.
My little girl...
Kirra, you are beautiful, inside and out. You are kind, caring, compassionate and have a big heart. You are such a wonderful friend to others and you are blessed with some wonderful friends who encourage you. You have a spirit of gratitude and you love the Lord with all her heart. My prayer is that your love for God deepens over the years and that you will continue to follow Him and the direction He has for you. I love you my sweet girl! Happy Birthday!
