One day last week I worked from home to get a project completed. I really appreciated having the quiet house to myself (aside from the Christmas music playing in the background) while I worked. I got much accomplished but also felt so renewed from the festive and relaxing atmosphere and likely also from a job completed and checked off my list, a sense of accomplishment!
Up until this week, even with the Christmas decorations adorning the house and the Christmas music playing regularly, it hadn't quite seemed like Christmas. I think a big part was due to the fact that we didn't have snow until just this past weekend. And our temperatures had been quite mild, until this week when they have hit -35 with windchill. I missed the snow a bit but definitely did not miss such cold temperatures. However, even with the cold, I appreciate the warmth of my home and the cozy fireplace where the stockings are hung with care. The constant indoor recesses though were a little hard to take, not just for the teachers but also for the students. Today I got a text from a friend in Chilliwack who informed me they had a snow day. I giggled and replied back that we had snow but also temperatures that felt like -100. Okay, a slight exaggeration. Last night at supper, Jaret was actually praying for -40 because he knows that is when there is a chance of school being closed. But, it wasn't so (only -37). He was a little envious hearing that Quinn, Colby, and Riley were enjoying a snow day with mild temperatures of -2. In fact, I think I was also feeling a little envious. Maybe Chilliwack would be a good place to live, right Pam?
With the extreme cold, it was a perfect night to cuddle up with the kids and watch a Christmas movie. The kids and I snuggled on the love seat in the bonus room with the glow of the lights from the kid's tree. The kids are thrilled that this year they have their own Christmas tree that they were able to decorate with all their kid-like decorations. And of course the Advent calendar has come out and they are enjoying the activities listed as they open the drawer that also includes their chocolate. So much tradition that encompasses this time of year. And all of this brings the kids so much joy which also makes me feel joy-filled.
I hope that you are all keeping warm this weekend and enjoying the weeks leading up to Christmas.
