We stayed home this Thanksgiving with Terry's mom having arrived on Thursday to spend the weekend with us. Thursday we had beautiful weather full of sunshine when Nettie and Terry picked up the kids from school. That evening, Kirra and I went to see Bethany Hamilton at WinSport. Kirra was so excited to hear Bethany Hamilton speak. I was grateful that we could attend this event together so that a women of faith and character, who my daughter admires, could speak truth into my daughter's life about her true identity in Christ and how nothing is impossible with Him. She is a true role model and so it was a special time that we spent together. The evening started late due to some traffic issues though which made for a late night. And Kirra was hoping that she may be able to meet Bethany Hamilton to get a picture and autograph but there were 3000 people in attendance so it wasn't possible. At the end of the night Kirra said the best part was just spending time together - she brings so much joy to me daily.
The weather began to turn and by Friday morning, we had snow. I know that snow is possible no matter what month it is Canada, but having snow fall made Thanksgiving feel a little more like Christmas this year. However, the kids were beyond thrilled at the fresh fallen snow. When I arrived home on Friday afternoon, the kids had been playing in the snow all afternoon. I am so grateful to see how well they play together and that they enjoy life's simple pleasures of just playing outside. That evening we had home-made pizza. I watched the Rider game while Terry and his mom watched a movie with the kids. Of course, the kids chose "Miracles From Heaven," which they have watched too many times to count. As I was watching my Rider game, I could hear the kids singing to the praise music and laugh at the parts that were funny. I am so grateful for the sound of laughter. I am grateful to hear them sing. I am grateful for cozy nights like this in front of the fireplace. I am grateful for a Rider win (which doesn't happen all the often it seems).
Saturday we had a trip to the Farmer's Market for lunch, the kids played outside more, and I had an unexpected visit from my friend Sandra with her new puppy (Ruby). And I think I am in love. I enjoyed lots of snuggles with this adorable, little labradoodle. And the kids are excited over how in love I fell because they are hoping it means one for our family soon. It was wonderful to have a couple of hours with my girlfriend.
Kirra would like a real puppy, not just her stuffed one!
Sunday after church, we had brunch, the kids played outside, and they spent time playing games with Grandma Nettie. They are enjoying their new trivia games she got them. We enjoyed a delicious Thanksgiving supper and of course felt way too stuffed afterwards.
Some evidence of snow in my fall arrangements outside.
Mark Driscoll wrote a book entitled, "Who Do You Think You Are? Finding Your True Identity in Christ." In his book he talks about how blessed we are because God has given us each the greatest blessing of all - HIMSELF. He reminds us that God is with us always. He loves us and works everything in your life for good when you trust in Him. He brings abundant blessings into our lives. Should we not make a habit to reflect on those blessings daily and to thank Him for them always? Praying that no matter what circumstances you are facing this Thanksgiving that you are able to count your blessings and be ever grateful.
