Feed the Need

Our school had our Feed the Need Packing Event on Friday.  It was an incredible morning being able to see our students serve in such a way.  Our school had a goal of $200 000 which we achieved and our family had a personal goal of $1500 which we also surpassed.  Thank you so much to all of you who helped support us in this fundraiser.  We are so grateful for the support to help with our children's education and to also help pack meals for children in Haiti.

The meals were bags which contained enough for six meals and each bag contained a scoop of vitamins, a scoop of dehydrated veggies, soy beans, and rice.  When the children in Haiti get the meals, all that needs to be done is water added.  Our students signed a banner and also made notes of encouragement for the children to receive.  Then students packed the lunches and even boxed them into the boxes to be added to the crate.  A total of 10 000 meals were packed in four hours.  After the packing, we had a wrap-up assembly where we sang songs and prayed over the meals.  It was amazing just seeing all of our students from Kindergarten through to Grade 12 worshiping through song.  It was so moving and brought tears to my eyes seeing the fruit of the spirit so evident among our students.  It makes me so privileged and honoured to work in such a place as this.

Jaret and Kirra both were excited at the end of the day to talk about Feed the Need Packing Event.  They both agreed it was really fun to pack the food.  They both sampled the food and said that it was okay and that they think that kids in Haiti will like it better than dirt cookies.  Then began the conversation of , "Would you rather eat ___ or ___."  In the end, Jaret and Kirra agreed that if they had to eat the meals because they had nothing else to eat, that they would appreciate the nutrients it would give them.  What an amazing way to serve others in another part of the world, above and beyond the mission projects that happen at grade level at our school that help on a more local level.  So grateful for how my kids are learning what service is all about.  Again, thank you for those of you who have supported us in our fundraiser.

I took pictures of Hope who was involved in our Packing Event as well.  Her smile and compassion for others warms my heart.

Hope with her mom, Heather and I.
