Rocky Mountain Diving Club

Ever since jumping off Black Rock in Maui, Jaret has been talking about his love of heights and jumping from these heights.  This makes my mom's heart a little nervous at times.  When Jaret questioned whether he would be able to not just jump off Black Rock but rather dive from this height, it really made me a little nervous.  Jaret likes to take risks and likes the thrill.  I remember when he went on California Screamin' over and over and over again.  He still talks about wanting to go to DisneyWorld and places like Six Flags so that he can go on bigger, better, and faster roller coasters.  But, getting back to the water…when Jaret showed interest in this I asked him if he thought he might be interested in learning to dive and being part of a dive club.  The next step was Terry filling out an on-line registration, add Terry's signature and Jaret's and Jaret is now in Beginner I diving with Rocky Mountain Diving Club.

Tonight was his first time attending Dive Club and he loved it.  They started out with dry land training where they warmed up by doing lots and lots of stairs, then some stretching, followed by some trampoline time and time jumping from a diving board onto mats.  It was then time to hit the water.  They started out easy on the 1M boards with just jumping straight in, a tuck jump, and a toe touch before they attempted a dive.  I was probably more nervous than Jaret but he had honestly never really dove with proper form before and I was wondering if he would really know what to do.  However, it was a beginner's level with others who didn't have any experience either.  With some coaching and instruction on what to do when diving, the time had come.  I was so proud of Jaret and think he did really well.

One concern Jaret has with diving is the fact that he saw some boys wearing a speedo and right away said that there is no way he is going to wear one of those.  That made me laugh.  When I asked him what the best part of his evening was, he didn't mention his diving but jumping off the 3M where he assured me he can't wait to dive off.  He also has his sights set on the 10M platform that he saw other divers jumping off of tonight.  That really makes my heart beat fast!!  One step at a time, my son; or one dive at a time.  This mom needs to see small increments before heights that high.

I didn't capture a picture but did take two short videos:
