Growing Up

This past week, it really hit me how fast my little boy is growing up.  Aside from my previous post about lipstick kisses, a couple other things happened around here that proved the fact.

Jaret had a Social test on Thursday and in preparation, he and I spent time studying for it.  I enjoyed sitting with him at the counter reviewing what he had learned about Peru.  And the hard work paid off for him as he got 100% on his test.  We are so proud of him.  This is a bit of a milestone as he has never really "studied" for a test yet, unless you count spelling tests.  First of many more study sessions...but, I am positive that as he gets into high school math and science, it will need to be Dad doing the studying with him.

A little last minute studying for his test.
Note: it was ugly shirt day at school.

Jaret also started a paper route this week.  He will be delivering flyers twice a week and is looking forward to saving his hard earned money.  He is excited about his new paper route.  I am grateful for the time it means for Jaret to bond with Daddy while they are out delivering papers together.  Although, I will take my turn with him as well.  And even Kirra is excited about going out to help Jaret.  Yep, Jaret is definitely growing up!  Sniff, sniff - part of me just wants him to stay this age forever.

Last night, we had supper and game night with the Tysdal's.  When we called Jaret and McKinley to join us for dessert, they didn't come.  We wondered why they wouldn't come when dessert was up for grabs.  Shea went to check on them and found that they were enthralled in a game of Uno and didn't want to break for dessert until the game was over.  And the other night during a sleepover, the two of them wanted to do something fun so they chose...math?  They "versed each other" (as Jaret would say) in Mathletics.  Love these two boys and see that they are growing up but there is still that little boy side of them.  During a play date on Friday, it was so beautiful so the kids were playing outside in the yard.  The creative side came out as McKinley and Jaret started tying each other to the patio furniture.  Why?  Because they were pretending they were on a roller coaster ride of course.  This continued with all the kids joining in.  It made Shea and I laugh and just filled my heart with love to see how well they were playing together and how much fun they were having.  So despite my boy growing up, I know that the little boy still exists.

Enjoy the rest of your Family Day Long Weekend!
