Weekend Visit

My parents came out to visit the second weekend of August.  This was their first time to Calgary since we moved at the beginning of summer so it was nice to have them see our new home.  They flew out on the Thursday evening so I picked them up from the airport and we stopped at Scotsman's for some appies since they hadn't eaten yet.

Dad had a course on Friday so Mom and I hung out and ran a few errands.  What we didn't expect was the hail and rain storm that hit when we were in Costco.  I was parked fairly close so decided to make a run for it and bring the vehicle up for mom and the kids.  That was a little crazy; trying to hobble with my broken toe with ice cold water to my ankles and hail pelting me.  I was soaked right through.  It does sound kind of funny actually.  We then proceeded home, only to get stuck in the round about to get into our community due to flooding.  With the rain coming down so fast and our community being on a hill, the storm drains couldn't keep up and the round about was flooded.  We drove through a section of it while it wasn't too high but it got so deep that it was up to the firefighters thighs; they were on site trying to keep traffic from entering the area and trying to unplug the drains.  Half an hour later, the water started receding and we finally were able to drive up the hill for home.  Hopefully the developer will learn from the lesson and work to plan what can be done so issues like that don't happen in the future.  We had a quiet evening on Friday just visiting and watching football.

Saturday, we drove out to Canmore to enjoy the beautiful day.  It had been years since my parents had been in the mountains and we hadn't been since moving back so we all really enjoyed the spur of the moment trip.  We went and had lunch on the deck at Silver Tip Resort and the day couldn't have been more beautiful with warm weather, blue skies, and sunshine.  It was relaxing sitting and looking out at the gorgeous views of the golf course.  We then went and walked around Canmore and even spent some time at the local art show in the park.  When we got home that evening, Terry and I had packing to do as we were leaving the next day for a week in the Shuswaps.  It was a quick visit with my parents but we enjoyed having them out and look forward to another visit soon that can be longer.
