I feel so blessed in my life. This blog is to share those blessings with our loved ones who live too far away to share in the joys we encounter on a daily basis. It is my mission to live a life that is full of gratitude and have a heart that is full of gratitude. Hope that you are taking the time to experience the joy in your life and to be grateful for your many blessings. ~ "When we lose one blessing, another is often, most unexpectedly, given in its place." ~C.S. Health & Fitness
Eeeek! I am so excited and so nervous all at the same time. I registered for my first half marathon. I will be running two races so far in the spring. The Rocky Mountain 10K in Canmore and the Centura Half in Calgary. I looked at registering for the SeaWheeze in Vancouver in August but waited too long - it sold out in a matter of hours. But, Terry mentioned the possibility of a race in the fall - maybe Seattle. Hmmm...wonder why he would choose that locale? Haha. Anyway, I am sooo pumped and look forward to the training and the challenge of completing my first half marathon.
January was a great month for working out. I did lots of running (on the treadmill) and clocked 182K for the month. That is a personal best for me and I am looking forward to continuing with a training program to get ready for the upcoming races that I am registered for. My weight regime has also been good, despite missing a week and a half with being away. I have been doing Jaime Eason's Live Fit Training and am seeing more definition and gaining strength in my upper body. This is the first time in years that I have done leg weights. The first few workouts were tough. And then this last week was difficult again when there were two days of legs within a two day timeline. What? I couldn't even imagine doing legs again when I still felt still. However, once I got going, it felt great. I have been motivated at the gym by two ladies who are older than I (which is saying a lot since I couldn't even remember recently how old I actually was) but in such excellent shape. Both ladies are so fit and have such strength and muscle definition. It is so inspirational and motivating to see their dedication and results. I am weaning a lot from them as I watch and learn and also chat with them regularly.
At the gym today, I had Mike (one of the personal trainers) complete a fitness assessment. Thanks for taking the time to work with me today, Mike. I was pleased with the results and look forward to another assessment in a couple of months to compare results, since we know that it doesn't just happen overnight. My Body Mass Index (BMI) was at 20.9 and in the normal range and my Percentage of Body Fat (PBF) was 23.4, also in the normal range. The results that came from this assessment were that I could add .2 lbs of body fat and 2.6 lbs of lean body mass. So a good "report card" overall that tells me I am healthy. I have seen improvement and feel great with how I have been feeling.
There has been some controversy recently with The Biggest Loser and one of the contestants. Rachel Frederickson won the latest season by dropping from 260 lbs to 105 lbs. The premiss of the show that I appreciate is that it helps people to loose the weight they have been battling with by educating contestants on healthy eating habits and exercise regimes. However, for your team to win, they must loose the most amount of combined weight that week. Loosing such a large amount of weight in such a short amount of time is not necessarily the healthiest. It is important to change your lifestyle by eating healthy and exercising. I hope that Rachel and the other contestants continue to fare well on this journey of health and fitness.
I came across a quote lately that I find to be motivating:

2014 - a good start overall and anticipating even better health and fitness yet to come!
