Winter has been here for awhile as we have had lots of snow already and many cold days. Despite the fact that I am getting more wimpy to the cold, it has been cold. This weekend hasn't been so cold though. We did wake up to a skiff of snow this morning which coated everything into a white, winter wonderland.
When I picked Jaret up after school on Friday, the kids and I went to the Western Development Museum. They had never been there and so Jaret was excited to visit an "old fashioned" town. He loved his field trip to Heritage Park last year with his class so I knew that he would enjoy this. I also knew they would enjoy the Festival of Trees. And if they didn't enjoy that, I knew that I would! But, they did really love it. I wasn't too surprised since they play a game in the car where they count how many Christmas lights are lit on people's homes as we drive by and whoever has the most out their window earns points and wins. One section of the Festival of Trees that Jaret really liked was the recycled trees. It seems his class helped decorate one of the trees. They used recycled hymnals for the decorations and puzzle pieces that were painted and glitter added made into wreaths. He was so proud of the tree. We walked through the Gingerbread Houses and the kids spotted the tiniest of details like one of the people by the house that was dressed as a Rider fan. I love what my kids teach me as I see the world through their eyes. Our last stop was the Eaton Christmas Display. Kirra really enjoyed this part and was amazed by all the moving creatures that made up the displays. After getting our gingerbread cookie, we felt completely in the Christmas spirit.
Friday evening, I enjoyed an evening out with my girlfriend, Ruth. We went to one of my favourite stores, Modern Country Interiors, for their Art Show. We walked around looking at all the different artwork and sipping some wine. From there we went for cheesecake at Calories where we visited until close. Such a nice evening! I think Terry was disappointed that he couldn't be my date for the art show but we couldn't find a sitter. Erika and Lexi, we miss you! We could always depend on you to babysit.
Saturday we took it easy around the house. The kids had neighbourhood friends come over and play for most of the day which kept them busy. We really appreciate the friendships they have made with kids who live nearby.
Sunday morning, we went to church and then out for lunch. Later that afternoon, we went to Elim to watch Peyton and Presely in their Christmas Concert. It is hard to believe that it is December and Christmas Concerts and parties have begun. I love Christmas! We have our Advent Calendar ready and so we are prepared to celebrate Christmas all month long.
I added a few new ornaments to the tree that really symbolize the reason for the season.
"And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love." ~ Corinthians 13:13
