Remembrance Day Weekend

I don't think that I could ever tire of the mountains.  That is why it was wonderful to wake up on Friday morning to a view of the mountains and downtown Calgary skyline.  How beautiful!  We enjoyed our weekend in Calgary and I think the kids did too.  As Kirra said, "This is a lovely vacation!"
Friday morning the kids got to swim which they always enjoy.  It was easy to get them out of the pool when they knew we were having lunch at Smash Burger - one of their favourites.  From there, we stopped by Jaret's former school so that he could see his friends and he could pick up his yearbook from last year.  He was so excited to see his friends and what made it even better was an invite to have a play date with Josiah and Wyatt for the afternoon.  They had a blast playing outside in the snow.  Friday evening meant more swimming which tired them out.
Saturday morning we reflected on what Remembrance Day means as we walked through the crosses on Memorial Drive.  Each year, white crosses in memory of fallen soldiers are displayed as a reminder of the sacrifice of the many brave men who served.  Jaret was very interested in this as it followed the Remembrance Day chapel at school and the lessons he had been learning recently.  He was surprised at how young some of the men were who lost their life.  After we spent time there, we enjoyed a Starbucks date in Kensington, partly as a way to warm up after being outside.  Some shopping at CrossIron followed where we got some of our Christmas shopping done.  After supper we went to church at Foothills.  It was a wonderful service and we enjoyed seeing many friends; it felt so good being at our home church.  After church we went to the Schulz's for the evening.  The kids had so much fun there.  In fact, Jaret said that it was better than swimming at the pool and that after we left his bucket was full to overflowing.  Of course, Kirra had everyone playing Doc McStuffins with her and her new doctor kit.
Sunday morning Terry went to watch some football with his friend Trevor.  So we made plans of our own and had Josiah and Wyatt and their families for some swimming.  Everyone had so much fun and after a couple of hours in the pool, the kids were exhausted.  So much so that we just cuddled up for most the afternoon together and watched the Rider game.  Once Terry returned from his football, he took the kids down for a quick swim before supper and let me finish watching the Rider game - and what a game it was!  We had supper and then I met up with my girlfriends, Leesa and Rachel, for a glass of wine.  It was so great to catch up with them.  I miss wine nights with them.
Monday morning meant the weekend had come to an end, almost.  It was a clear and sunny day and the mountains were so beautiful.  They seemed so close and were so crisp against the bright blue sky. Can you tell I miss the Rockies?  That morning, we went over to have breakfast with the Epp's.  We very much enjoyed our visit and the delicious waffles they made.  I can't wait to get that recipe as they are healthy, protein waffles.  Yummy!  Before leaving Calgary for the drive home, we had just one stop left - Starbucks at Creekside to see my favourite barrista - Obi.  It was nice to see her and she made my drink before I even ordered it.  Miss her!  Had such a wonderful trip to Calgary!
