Birthday Celebrations

Yesterday, Terry celebrated another birthday.  It is funny how as one gets older, they don't enjoy celebrating birthdays quite as much.  Remember when we were younger and we would count down to our birthday?  And then as we got into our high school years we couldn't wait to turn 16 and get our license?  Now we seem to want to forget our birthday.  However, Terry did have another birthday yesterday.  In the morning I made breakfast while he went and got some Starbucks to go along with our omelettes.  Then we took it easy around the house for the morning and built lego with the kids.  In the afternoon, I ran on the treadmill, and then ran a few errands that included a trip to the library with the kids.  That evening, Jaret and Kirra were excited for movie night at Clive, Pierce, and Maeve's with a sitter.  Ruth, Sean, Terry, and I went for supper to The Granary to celebrate Terry's birthday.  But we drew as little attention as possible to the evening as Terry didn't want the waiters to sing to him.  We did enjoy some dessert though which was yummy!  So, another year is passed for him and wishing him many blessings and good health in the year ahead.

October got so busy that we didn't even have a chance to have a birthday party for Jaret around his birthday.  But today was the day to celebrate and celebrate we did.  Jaret had so much fun!  We had his birthday at the Sheraton Cavalier Water Park complete with water slides.  He invited some kids from school, the neighbourhood, and Peyton and Presley.  Leading up to his birthday, we went to check the pool out and that just made him more excited.  He was counting down the days.  When Kirra woke up this morning she kept calling Jaret the birthday boy and was also very excited about the day ahead.  The kids spent the whole time in the water, with the exception of the break for pizza and cupcakes.  They all seemed to have fun and didn't want to leave when it was all over.  Jaret's highlight of the party was the water slides and all the fun they had slip sliding away.  And although I loved seeing Jaret and his friends having so much fun on the slides, it was perhaps not my favourite part of the party when Terry came down so fast that he soaked me with the splash he made.  But all in good fun!  However, he may have to make it up to me with flowers or something.  Haha.

Prior to Jaret's party, he was talking about how he is grateful that he could have new friends come to his party. I think he was a little worried that no one would say yes to his invite.  Then he said to me, "Mom, birthdays are fun but you know they aren't about the presents.  I am excited that I will have friends there to have fun with me because that is better than any present ever could be."  I am so thankful that he has a heart that appreciates people and values friendships and special celebrations with this friends.  However, I was also a little sad when he mentioned how he will miss having his friend McKinley and other friends from Calgary at his party.  But, he does seem to understand already how life goes through seasons and that he has now made new friends in this season of our life.

Including some pics of our evening out and others from Jaret's birthday party.
