Kirra woke up first thing this morning with such enthusiasm; she was so excited that her first day of pre-school had finally arrived. She had been counting sleeps until she awoke to this morning and was beaming from ear to ear. Her friends in Calgary started pre-school earlier this week and she was missing them but was so positive about making new friends in Saskatoon at her new "pre-cool" (as Kirra pronounces it still but her 's' sound is coming and she actually said it correctly today).
She got ready and was thrilled to wear her new dress and sparkly, pink shoes. Before breakfast we snapped a few pics before Terry went to work and then Kirra was the first one in the vehicle ready to go. We got to pre-school a little early (still not used to it taking 10 minutes or less to get anywhere in Saskatoon) and she made a friend named Elizabeth. We hung up her backpack and got her name tag on and she met her teacher, Lynette Bober. Lynette is an amazing woman who has been teaching at the pre-school for a few years now. Once all the students arrived, it was time to go into the classroom. Kirra found her chair for circle time and Ms. B welcomed the students with a welcome song and they did calendar time including some sorting, counting, and colour games. After a story and a visit from Buttercup the puppy puppet, where each student got a hug, the students had opportunity to play with play-doh and the parents had an orientation with Ms. B. As the parents got the low down on the do's and don'ts of pre-school, the students were enjoying play-doh time. It was interesting that the students began by being quiet but as they warmed up and began forming friendships, they got louder and louder. Once our orientation was over, we got to connect with other parents while the students switched to free play. Kirra was happy about this as she had her eye on playing in the little house all morning. While visiting, I connected with someone whom I had gone to Bible camp with as a teenager. How crazy is that?
After some play time, pre-school was drawing to an end. Ms. B gathered the students back at circle time for an activity and some good-bye songs. Kirra had so much fun at pre-school and was excited about the friends that she made. She thanked Ms. B and reminded her that she would see her on Tuesday. I am thrilled at how well run the classroom is and feel blessed that we were able to get Kirra into this pre-school. She will have a great year with Ms. B and her new friends.
After pre-school, Kirra and I did some shopping together, had lunch and then meet my girlfriend Kelli for a Starbucks date. It was a wonderful day. But I think Kirra is really excited to go to school on Tuesday for the whole morning, all by herself. From the fun of gymnastics yesterday for her and Jaret to the fun of school today. My little girl is growing up! I love you so much Kirra and I feel so blessed that I get to be your Mommy and stay home this year with you. It will be a joy to volunteer in your classroom, read stories with you, do crafts, and play. You have such a wonderful personality and you are so outgoing. I love how you know how to be a friend and I pray that in being a friend, you will make some close friends over the coming years. You are caring, kind, and friendly. You are brave and you draw others to you. I pray that you will continue to always have a sparkle in your eye, a smile that brightens up a room, and a skip in your step. You are beautiful and created by God, who designed you for you, and with a purpose!
Psalm 139:14
"I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well."
