A Weekend in September...

The weather has been spectacular this fall.  It is definitely cool in the morning and once the sun goes down, but it has been absolutely beautiful!  Friday night we met Terry's parents at The Berry Barn for supper.  I was really craving perogies followed by Saskatoon Berry pie.  And I was not disappointed.  My craving was fulfilled.  After supper we spent some time down along the river and watched the sunset.

Saturday morning I got up early and ran with a run group through Brainsport.  I had never joined a run group before but had always wanted to try it.  I was so pleased that I tried it out and met some really nice people.  Looking forward to running regularly with them.

We then went to watch my cousin, Racquel, play soccer.  She is on the Regina Cougars Soccer team who played against the Huskies.  It was difficult not to cheer for my alma mater but of course I did it because of my cousin.  She is an amazing athlete with a strong kick.  Unfortunately, they lost the game but we are grateful that we could watch her play.  From there we took the kids mini golfing.  Jaret did really well but Kirra's attention didn't last long so she and I played as a team.

Sunday morning we ran the Terry Fox Run along the river.  Our family started together but I continued on to run 10K and Terry did 3K with the kids.  We were happy to go out and support such a worthy cause.  As I ran I was doing it to honour my Auntie Ella and for Mattie (our Aussie family).  My cousin, Curt's wife, helped organize the event and spoke at the opening.  She has fought an amazing battle with the same cancer that Terry Fox had and just this past year had to have reconstructive surgery on her leg.  During her speech, she quoted Wayne Dyck, who also fought a battle with cancer.  Wayne Dyck was a principal who I knew from years ago.  It was wonderful to see him at the race and see that he indeed fought a battle but conquered cancer.  While I was talking to him, I met his wife.  And talk about living in a small town again, I had been standing with her in line at the bank a couple of days before and we started chatting.  What a small world.

The rest of the weekend we really took it easy, spent time at the nearby park, and just enjoyed the great weather.  We love that the kids have made friends in the neighbourhood and spend so much time outside playing.  It is hard to drag them in at the end of the day as they just want to keep playing.  What a blessing that has been.  I remember reading an article in the spring about letting your kids have more freedoms, similar to what we had growing up, and indeed, we have given that to our kids with the move.  It is great seeing all the kids in the neighbourhood look out for each other and work through little issues that may arise.

We are expecting some more nice weather yet so fall isn't over and I anticipate much more time outside to run and play.  Hope each of you can enjoy this gorgeous weather and get out and play...
