I feel so blessed in my life. This blog is to share those blessings with our loved ones who live too far away to share in the joys we encounter on a daily basis. It is my mission to live a life that is full of gratitude and have a heart that is full of gratitude. Hope that you are taking the time to experience the joy in your life and to be grateful for your many blessings. ~ "When we lose one blessing, another is often, most unexpectedly, given in its place." ~C.S. Jaret - Grade One
Jaret was so excited for his first day of Grade One that he could hardly fall asleep the night before. After lots of tucks and cuddles though, he did finally fall asleep, although not as early as we would have liked. But despite that he woke up without any issue in the morning with a huge smile on his face. He was definitely excited for the day ahead - meeting his teacher, seeing the friends in his class, and showing how independent he is now that he is in Grade One.
I came across a prayer on facebook that puts the thoughts and emotions into words.
A Mother's First Day of School Prayer
I wonder what you're doing now,
And if everyone is treating you kind.
I hope there is a special person,
A nice friend that you can find.
I wonder if the teacher knows
Just how special you are to me.
And if the brightness of your heart
Is something she can see.
I wonder if you are thinking about me
And if you need a hug.
I already miss the sound of your voice
And how you give my leg a tug.
I wonder if you could possibly understand
How hard it is for me to let you grow
On this day know that my heart breaks
For this is the first step in letting you go.
Jaret is in Mrs. Cossette's class and he has a number of friends in his class, including his close friend, Wyatt. After picking Jaret up at the end of the day, he was excited to tell me all about his day. The funniest thing was writing a sentence about his summer. As I was tucking him in bed the night before his first day of school, we were talking about the fun things we did. Specifically we were talking about highlights from our trip to San Diego. All this was in preparation for an assignment such as this on the first day of school. So when I asked him if he had to do any writing today he told me that they had to write about their summer. Perfect, I thought. Then he began telling me how he wrote about going to Calaway Park. Really? Seriously? Put of all the things we did this summer, and only going to Calaway Park for three hours one day at the beginning of summer, this is what he writes about! Hilarious! He simply explained to me that he forgot about what else to write about. I guess we will skip a vacation next summer and just go to Calaway Park.
Jaret wears a uniform to school this year. There are a number of pieces to choose from but on Wednesdays, all elementary students are required to wear a white shirt, a navy vest, and navy pants or shorts. The students look sharp in their uniforms. I am thankful that at this point, Jaret likes wearing the uniform. The day the uniform arrived on our doorstep, I needed to stop by the school for a couple of things jaret was so excited that he wanted to wear his uniform. However, we held out for the first day of school.
Jaret enjoyed his first week of school and is eager to come home each day and share about what they are learning and what he did at school. He loves recess and the fact that he gets two recesses just makes it even better. On Friday, there was a Welcome BBQ to reconnect with families. Jaret sat with his friends Wyatt and Josiah. Then the kids spent a couple of hours playing on the playground with Brett, Erika, Lexi, and Brooklyn (she is one of my former students and her mom teaches PE at the school). That was a huge highlight for the kids as they adore all those kids.
I feel so blessed for the positive start to school for Jaret and for the community we are part of at Bearspaw Christian School!
