Trip to Regina

After our time in Humboldt we traveled to Regina to visit my family. We arrived on Sunday evening with plans to drive home on Wednesday. However, we had a change of plans and were enjoying our time with family and the gorgeous weather so much that we decided to stay for the week. Having arrived on July 1st, we planned to keep the kids up and drive into Regina for the fireworks. The kids stayed up despite us being certain that there would be fireworks due to a thunderstorm in the works. As we were driving into Regina, we saw the fireworks going off - early we might add. We were pretty disappointed to have missed them but the light show from the lightening was amazing. Then driving back to my parent's place, we saw some fireworks going off in Emerald Park. We followed w the fireworks and found a gentleman putting them off in his yard. By this point, Kirra was long since asleep so she missed it all. But, we had never been so close to a fireworks display. We got out of the truck and stood in front of the house where the family was having their own Canada Day Party. They were amazing! We talked to the guy after the fireworks display was done and thanked him. We discovered that he does this every year and this year spent close to $1000 on the show. We may be back next year because it was that good! We all had dental appointments scheduled so that took up our time on Tuesday. It was Kirra's first appointment and she did really well and made a new friend in Kristin, Dad's hygienist. A small cavity was found on a back tooth which devastated me. Later in the week I went in and assisted dad on her filling. She did wonderful and dad did the filling without freezing. Jaret did great with his appointment as well, including getting x-rays done (despite the pinching that he fought through). Jaret was excited about his Treasure Hunt in Grandma and Grandpa's backyard. he couldn't believe that Grandpa had a Treasure Box with a Treasure Map in it. He was thrilled to find little bundles of money treasure, including money from Mexico. Must be true treasure! Most days were spent at my sister's place where we hung out in her pool with the kids. What a difference a year makes too. Jaret was a little fish and this year could stand on his tip toes in the pool. He was so proud. And Kirra enjoyed being in the pool more this year compared to last and was even comfortable climbing up and down the ladder herself. We enjoyed the sunshine, the heat, and the lack of mosquitoes due to all the dragonflies that filled my sister's yard. I should have taken a picture because it was truly amazing seeing so many of them flying around above us. I kept up with my running while we were in Regina as well and loved running there. The weather was hot and the trail took me by the golf course in Emerald Park. I even got to run with my dad one evening, and then another day got to run with both Terry and my dad. We spent a day in Weyburn. It was wonderful to see Grandma Mary and also see her new condo that will be her new home. Dad is also starting a new office in Weyburn so we were able to see the work being done to renovate the building. We had lunch at Club Cafe which is also a highlight as Jack makes 'thee' best lemon chicken. It was a typical hot and sunny Saskatchewan day so we spent time at Don Mitchell paddling pool and spray park which the kids loved! We stayed for the whole week mainly because I wanted to take Jaret to the Rider game on Sunday evening. It was such a HOT day but that didn't stop us. We just made sure that we had lots of water packed for the game. This was Jaret's first Rider Game at Mosaic. For the first quarter we were in mom and dad's new seats but then moved down to sit with them for the rest of the game as the people they usually sit with were not at the game. It was fun to be able to sit together. Jaret did enjoy it but became a little bored after half time. I can't blame him. Even though we won, we had not seen a touchdown. He kept asking if he could go onto the field to meet Gainer and couldn't understand why he couldn't just go down and see him. May have to look into having a tour of Mosaic sometime and see if he can meet Gainer. The final score was 17-1 with a touchdown finally happening in the final minutes of the game. Some other highlights: -supper at Earl's with my parents one evening -sitting enjoying a glass of wine on the deck by the fireplace -a fire to roast marshmallows - Kirra wasn't even terrified of the fire this year but chose to just eat the marshmallows out of the bag rather than roasting them -evening out with my sister -just all the time spent with family *Wrote shortly after our trip in early July but not published until today
