I feel so blessed in my life. This blog is to share those blessings with our loved ones who live too far away to share in the joys we encounter on a daily basis. It is my mission to live a life that is full of gratitude and have a heart that is full of gratitude. Hope that you are taking the time to experience the joy in your life and to be grateful for your many blessings. ~ "When we lose one blessing, another is often, most unexpectedly, given in its place." ~C.S. Jaret's First Sleepover
Jaret had his first sleepover last night. In the days leading up to the sleepover, he was counting down the days. And as we counted down, he only got more and more excited about the sleepover. My Mom flew in Friday morning to visit for the weekend and as we picked her up at the airport, Jaret said, "Grandma, this is the best day ever!" When my Mom asked him why, he told her, "Because you came for Kirra's Birthday and I am having my first sleepover, with McKinley." After picking Mom up we had to stop and get a few groceries, and most importantly, the snacks for Jaret's Sleepover. As he tells us, "Sleepovers are all about the snacks!" So we got McKinley's favourite, "Tomato Chips," a.k.a. Ketchup Chips. And many other snacks including popcorn twists and ripple chips. As we ate lunch, Jaret was wishing it was supper so he could just get to his sleepover fun.
Mark, Shea, McKinley, and Everett came over after supper. Although, McKinley didn't even want them to come into the house because this was his sleepover. In the end, they convinced him they would just stay for a little bit and not ruin his sleepover fun. So the kids played for a bit as we visited. Then we had some soccer cupcakes to celebrate Ev's March birthday that was missed and McKinley's June birthday that will be missed. The boys each opened up their presents and then it was time for the sleepover to begin so Mark, Shea, and Everett went home. Kirra hugged Ev at the door and wondered why he couldn't have a sleepover too.
Jaret and McKinely got into pj's and got cozy in the bonus room with their snacks. They cuddled up together to watch 'The Adventures of Tin Tin.' It is a long movie and we thought that they would fall asleep but I guess that was wishful thinking. As they were watching the movie it would get quite loud at times with some boy play. Terry and I took turns going up to check on them and quiet them down. The movie ended before 11 but the boys did not fall asleep until some time close to midnight.
We were uncertain as to whether McKinley would make it through the night. He woke up in the middle of the night on Thursday and was a little worried about the sleepover and didn't think he could sleepover all night at our place. He is used to falling asleep here and having Mark and Shea take him home but he often gets up and cuddles into bed with them during the night. Shea laughed and warned me that he might try to come and cuddle with us at some point during the night. I had overheard Jaret reassuring McKinley earlier in the evening, "Don't worry. If you wake up from a bad dream, you can just wake me and tell me about your dream and then you won't be scared. Or if you are, we can go wake my Mom and cuddle with her and then you won't be scared."
Happy to report that both boys did well and the sleepover was a success. They woke up at 8:20 on Saturday morning and decided to quietly go into the basement to play, where my Mom was sleeping. Thankfully she was already awake. They enjoyed some more play time while I made waffles and McKinley went home after breakfast. Jaret thought the sleepover was, "Totally awesome! I like that it is the longest playdate ever." So thankful for a sleepover for these two before McKinley moves in less than two weeks. Good memories!
