August Long Weekend

It was a great long weekend and the weather couldn't have been better. I'll start with Thursday, even though it wasn't officially the long weekend yet. We spent the afternoon in the backyard. We had the paddling pool set up and Jaret was excited to have Sophie over for a playdate. They had fun splashing in the pool. They like running down the side of the house and sliding into the pool. Might be time to buy a slip and slide.
Friday the kids and I went to the zoo with Shea and the boys. We didn't see much - flamingos, giraffes, lions, zebras, elephants, gorillas and kangaroos. We had lunch there and the kids played at the playground. We also walked through Prehistoric Park but many of the dinos they usually have (mechanical ones that move) were not on display. A highlight though was going into the Gardens and having butterflies fly around everywhere. The kids had fun and all I have been hearing since from Kirra is, "Zoo? Zoo? Go zoo, Mommy?"
Saturday was a lazy morning. Breakfast on the deck and then the kids played out there while I sat and read a book. Afterwards we got ready for the day and I gave myself a pedicure. Kirra walked in and wanted "Colour toes, Mommy?" So I painted her little toes the same colour as mine. It was pretty cute.
We invited the Mark, Shea, and the kids over for burgers for lunch and then spent the afternoon hanging in the yard. The kids love when the paddling pool is set up. They splashed around and did the usual running and jumping into the pool. They also got waterballoons out and had a water fight. It was a sunny, hot day and we enjoyed every minute of it. We ended the day with church that evening.
Sunday we went with Mike, Monica, and the kids to Johnston's Canyon. Another beautiful day and we wanted to take advantage of the good weather and enjoy a hike in the mountains. We also wanted to get a hike in while Kirra still fits in the carrier. It was a really busy day on the trails though and was difficult at times fighting the crowds. We found a quiet spot off the trail to sit and have lunch, right by the water. The kids had a great time and they can't wait until we can go hiking again. After the hike, we stopped in Banff for supper at Earl's and a trip to The Fudgery and Starbucks. Perfect kind of day!
Monday we stuck around the house. While the kids played, Terry and I worked around the house. Terry puttered in the garage and went grocery shopping while I cleaned and did laundry. Glad we had the weekend to enjoy and then a full day to get caught up on things around the house. I think I have said this before but I wish every weekend could be a long weekend.
