Putting Kirra's big girl bed together was not an easy task. First began the difficulty of even getting the bed which was an adventure in itself. We had gone to Ikea last weekend to find that even though it said there were 5 in the computer system, there were none to be found. We were told that 6 more were being delivered and would be on the shelf on Monday morning so to call and have them do a visual check. Terry called on Wednesday afternoon (I worked all day) and they would not do a visual check. So, we thought we would go for supper and take our chances that they had the bed in stock. I mean by this point they should have 11 and they can't have all sold out. Right? So, I get to Ikea first and go and check the shelves to see that they are empty. I get help from a gentleman who works at Ikea to see the computer system is still showing 5 in stock. He tells me there is nothing that can be done. Well, I don't like that answer and ask to speak to someone who can do something for me. One of the ladies working the floor comes over to me and apologizes as she said they have been experiencing issues with this particular bed and they are working on resolving it. In the meantime, she does help me! She gives me a sheet with the information for the bed and tells me I can go pay for it and they will deliver it for free on Friday. I am happy with this result. Then when I am at the home delivery counter, the sales lady comes running up to me - they found the 5 beds that were in stock so they helped me load it into the truck to take home. Oh the chaos of Ikea, but they came through in the end!
Friday night, Terry unwrapped the bed and we carried the many parts up to the bonus room. I started putting it together, with help from Terry on a couple of steps. The whole bed couldn't be built or we wouldn't have gotten it in Kirra's bedroom. I did the steps that I could and even some future steps that could then just be put together. I thought I was doing pretty good but had to fix a couple of steps the next day as I made a couple of mistakes. But in the end, Kirra's bed was put together (properly) and she was excited about her new, big girl bed.
The best part was being able to cuddle in to her for bedtime stories. We used to always sit in her little chair in her room but cuddling in her bed with her for story time was wonderful. I ended up lying with Kirra until she fell asleep. But, this didn't come quickly for her (around 10 o'clock) as I fell asleep first. But she didn't get to bed until just after 9 as we had church. She slept through the night though and didn't fall out. She was awake just after 8 o'clock this morning and was content just reading books in her bed. Her door was closed and she hasn't been taught how to open it yet, for good reason. Tonight will be the real test of the bed as I won't fall asleep with her. If her nap is any indication, then tonight will go well. I guess we'll see how it goes...
Sweet Dreams,
Sleep Tight.
We love you, Princess,
Good Night!
