We continue to have many house showings. I feel like our house is cleaner than it has ever been but it is due to the constant cleaning so that it shows well. Jaret even likes getting in on the action and asked if he could vaccum the other day (had to include a picture - with vaccuming everyday lately, we find it easier to pull out the upright vaccum rather than the central vac). The showings and open houses haven't resulted in our house selling yet but we did have an offer a couple of weeks ago. The offer was so low and even after countering, the deal fell through. We try to remain optimistic and know that the right people will come along and the house will sell. It has just been a little difficult and the stress is mounting as we near our possession date. Once the house sells, there will be lots to do - from packing to phone calls to transfer services over to the new home and appointments with bankers and lawyers. I think the excitement will hit once we are moving and getting settled. Then the stress will be behind us and we can enjoy our new home.
There has been lots of recent progress on our new house. The cabinets are in, all the flooring is in, the painting done, and light fixtures hung. They are still working on plumbing and have work do to on the exterior, including our stonework and some exterior painting. However, all that is really left then is some of the details like installing the mirrors in the bathrooms, closet shelving, and doors. Our possession date in April 6 so we are less than a month away.
The kids and I flew to Regina this past weekend. It was Kirra's first time flying. Jaret kept telling people that it was his first time flying too. But when I told him that it wasn't he corrected himself saying, "Well, I haven't flown in a long time and this is my first time flying when I am four." I get such a laugh out of the things he says. Both Jaret and Kirra flew really well. One Mom commented how brave I was for flying on my own with both kids. I told her that it is a lot easier to fly with both of them for such a short flight than drive the eight hours with them on my own.
It was nice seeing my family but the reason for our trip home this time was not under the best of circumstances. My family and I attended a funeral of a friend of mine from school. I went to school with Dallas from elementary school until high school. My parents also knew his parents from Young Fellows. It was emotional attending the funeral. It saddened me so much to know that Dallas was going through such a difficult time that he chose to no longer face life. What makes it even harder is he left behind a son - Brennan who is only two years old and looks so much like Dallas. It was nice to reconnect with some friends from high school but obviously bittersweet given the reason we were all together. My thoughts and prayers go out to the MacNaughton family. While at the funeral, my Grandma Mary looked after Jaret and Kirra as well as Lisa's kids. Thank you Grandma! I can imagine how worn out you were after that. While in Weyburn, our family enjoyed Chinese food at one of our favourite restaurants, Club Cafe. We also did a tour of Weyburn to see some old sites and see how the city has changed.
Jaret is doing well. He is enjoying pre-school. I went with the class on a trip to Chapters and Petland. The kids had so much fun learning about different pets (the newest unit they are learning about). Despite all the pet talk though, Jaret hasn't asked for a pet, yet! Not even a beared dragon - the reptile that is sitting on his shoulder in the picture below. Playdates for Jaret also keep us busy. He is excited that spring is in the air so he can get out to play more, especially if it means riding his bike.
Kirra is sleeping so much better through the night which is such a blessing. She is still trying to walk and will take four or five steps between Terry and I as we sit on the floor and have her practice going back and forth between us. If she can't be walking, she has to get around somehow. Most kids would crawl, but not Kirra. She has decided to start bum scootching to get around. It is quite cute and she can get around really well that way. Jaret now has to start playing in the basement more, especially if he is playing with lego that he doesn't want Kirra to get at.
I am including a few pictures. One of Jaret sitting and doing his 'homework' from pre-school and one of Kirra doing 'homework' as she plays with her Alphabet Pal and learns her ABC's (just kidding, she's a little young yet).
So we are definitely keeping busy but that is what makes life so interesting. We are looking forward to my parents coming next week. Dad is playing in an annual curling bonspiel. It will be nice to have them both here.
