New Year

A new year has begun! I apologize for not doing a post yet this year, things have just been a little busy. But, I still plan on keeping my blog updated - especially for our family and friends who aren't part of our everyday life. We love living in Calgary. Sometimes the city seems very large but it affords lots of opportunity, including being so close to the mountains. However, the downside is being so far away from loved ones - we miss you all!
Terry - He is keeping very busy in his job. And even though this isn't his busy time, has been pulling some very long days and putting in extra hours. Just yesterday he was part of an important meeting with Central Office to present the business plan fot the Faculty of Kinesiology. His busy time is ahead with year end budget stuff just around the corner. He will however, take a few days off to join some of his friends and colleagues in Vancouver and take in some of the Olympics - mostly speed skating. On top of his job at the Faculty of Kinesiology, he has also taken on a part time job working for Dr. Reed Ferber. Reed is the Director of the Running Injury Clinic through Kinesiology. He has hired Terry to look after the finances of his operation.
Jenn - Busy being a Mom but enjoying every minute of it. Volunteered at Jaret's preschool this past week and had fun making clay snowmen with the kids. It is fun to be involved in the classroom setting and meeting the kids he spends Tuesday and Friday afternoons with. Speaking of classroom, looking at returning to work in April or May to teach for a couple of months as there are a number of maternity leaves at the elementary level. Waiting to meet with the administration at the school to see which grade might be the best fit.
Jaret - He missed not going to preschool and was excited to get back to it, especially since they moved into the new classroom after Christmas. Terry has taken Jaret out skiing a few times since Christmas. Each time he seems to get a little bit better. We have a family pass at COP (Calgary Olympic Park) so they have been there a few times and have also tried Nakiska. Last time, Terry even took him on the chair lift and they did a green run. Jaret also started skating lessons at the oval this past week. It was amazing to see the confidence he gained after just one lesson. We were so proud of him. Just this morning, Jaret had an appointment with a pediactric opthamologist. He was seen very quickly as the eye doctor we saw a couple of weeks ago was concerned that he hadn't been referred after the incident with the peri-orbital cellulitis a couple of years ago. He has been having some issues with sensitive and sore eyes (mostly his left, the eye that he had the cellulitis in). As it turns out, he has ambloypia (lazy eye) and a stigmatism in that eye - weakened eye and vision of only 20/40. He requires glasses and so we are on our way this afternoon to go pick out glasses. He will be seen in six weeks at the Children's Hospital to check the eye health and see if the glasses are working, otherwise we will have to look at other options; possibly an eye patch over his strong eye to get him to use his weaker eye and therefore strengthen it. Time will tell. Hopefully he will adjust okay to the glasses.
Kirra - Kirra is starting to sleep better, most nights. She is still breastfeeding but I am starting to wean her. She is so happy and enjoys being around her big brother. She gives lots of smiles and giggles when he plays with her and tickles her. Kirra is sitting to play and is getting the hang of how some of the toys work, rather than just putting them in her mouth; although she still does lots of that too. She loves to stand and walk around, with help of course. She will probably go right to walking and skip the crawling stage.
Other things going on...
Mom - My Mom has been in the hospital for over three weeks now. Durign that time she has been on oxygen to help her breath and had a lung biopsy done. Doctors have run so many tests while she has been in there and just yesterday she finally got a partial diagnosis. The diagnosis is Acute Interstitial Pnuemenitis Lung Disease. It is only a partial diagnosis at this point as they believe that an autoimmune disease is also linked to this condition, possibly Lupus. Hopefully she will get out of the hospital this weekend and be able to rest at home and follow the treatment plan that the specialists lay out at this point.
House - We will be listing our home with a realtor in the next couple of days as we have had very little traffic since listing it privately. It does mean that we will have to list it for more so that we can get what we want out of it. But, we have been told that we should be able to get more for it. Our new house is coming along - finally! It is very exciting! We had a walk through last week to see that the electrical and plumbing was done and to see if there were any changes that needed to be made in regard to plug ins, fixture placement, etc. We asked for a couple of changes to be made, including the attic opening moved from Jaret's room to our walk-in closet and it has been done. We snuck in last night and saw that they have drywalled the whole house. We were surprised but thrilled to see the progress that only happened in a couple of days. We will hopefully be in in April but will know more on our next walk through.
That's all the time I have for now but will do another couple of posts soon as I have more to share.
