Family Time

As I write this post, it is -36°C outside. We have had a lot of cold weather recently, as well as record amounts of snow. Positives about the weather - shoveling is good exercise and we tend to stay in a bit more. It feels like Christmas with all the snow and it is cozy with the Christmas decorations and the fireplace going. When we go out, we dress warm and don't stay out for long.
Jaret is finished preschool now until the new year. They had their Christmas Concert on Tuesday. Jaret did a fabulous job being Joseph and saying his one line. We were so proud of how clearly he spoke. He was adorable - even when he was just standing up there and not singing the songs. It's funny because when we were practicing the songs together, he wouldn't sing - it was just Mom singing the songs while driving in the truck. His preschool teachers said he sang some while praciticng but when it came time to the show, he just stood there, not singing at all. On Friday they had their Christmas Party. I enjoyed volunteering that day. Jaret was the special person and shared his Advent Calendar with the class.
With staying close to home, we have had some playdates but also just stay in and play, do some crafts, read stories or practice letters and numbers. This afternoon Jaret and I made a Gingerbread Train together. Jaret had fun and loved eating the icing. The day must have tired him out as he fell asleep on the couch around 6:45.
Kirra really enjoyed her brother's Christmas Concert. She sat quietly on my lap the whole time just watching everything that was going on. She adores her big brother and he is so good to her. The other day when I put Kirra down for a nap, she hadn't quite fallen asleep and was crying lightly. I was busy with something at the time and so Jaret went into her room. He later came out and when I asked him what he did he said, "I just stood at her crib and told her, 'Don't cry sweetheart, it's just time to close your eyes and have a little sleep.'" How adorable is that? And, within minutes of him being in there, whispering to his sister, she was asleep. Maybe I should wake him to help me with that at 4 in the morning!
Kirra now has two bottom teeth that are visible and she is chewing on everything. She can sit well on her own but still does a nose dive if she is left unsupported too long. She enjoys tummy time more and loves rolling from back to tummy and from tummy to back. Terry is excited to see her develop so he tries to get her up on all fours and then tells her to crawl to Mommy. He also says, "Just get up and walk, Kirra," as he holds her hands and helps her walk around the living room (at seven months). Me on the other hand, can wait for her to grow up - it passes all too quickly.
And that's just a little glimpse into our life recently. With no preschool this week, we have some errands to do and some playdates scheduled. Then the following week Christmas is upon us and we will be on our way home to Saskatchewan to spend with family.
