Visit with Grandparents

Terry's parents were here on the weekend. They arrived on Friday evening, just in time to see Jaret splashing around in his pool and to enjoy supper on the deck. After the kids were in bed we watched the Rider game; we often record the games to watch later as we have learned it is difficult to sit and watch a game from start to finish with children. We were disappointed in the Rider loss but cheered them on to the end hoping for a comeback at some point.
Saturday morning Terry and I (with Kirra) went to the new CrossIron Mills Shopping Mall that opened. We were pleasantly surprised to get a parking spot right close to the mall and found that it wasn't too busy in the morning. By the time we left though, traffic was picking up and there was a string of cars lined up as far as the eye could see trying to make their way to the mall. The mall is fairly impressive and has some great stores. While we were checking out the mall, Terry's parents took Jaret to Beacon Hill to do some shopping and then to Costco for ice cream. The afternoon was spent hanging out in the backyard by the pool followed by a bbq supper. Once the kids were in bed, we played some cards.
Sunday morning we got up early so we could get to Calaway Park when it opened. Jaret, Terry, and Geoff went on the log ride twice, right at the beginning of the day when there was hardly a line up. They all had lots of fun. I am sure Jaret would have gone again and again if it wasn't for the long line that had formed as the morning went on. Instead, Jaret convined Terry to take him on the big ship a couple of times. We are beginning to see Jaret's love for the more adventurous rides as he didn't want to go on many "kiddie rides." We only spent a couple of hours at Calaway Park and then made our way to the Farmers' Market for lunch and to look around. It was busy but we like the atmosphere there. Came home to relax a bit for the rest of the afternoon before we then went to Olive Garden for supper. Jaret ate more than we have ever seen him eat - he had his full of breadsticks, chicken marsala and pasta. And just when we thought he was full, he dug right into the middle of the tirimisu before Terry even picked up his fork to share. He definitely takes after his Daddy with his love for that dessert. We obviously pushed ourselves and Jaret was overtired by the end of the day. So much so that he was still awake while we were playing cards. We eventually just brought him downstairs onto the couch and he fell asleep in a matter of minutes. The rest of us finished our game and then weren't far behind. It was a nice weekend.
The week ahead look like we have more summer in store. The weather is supposed to be warm with sunshine everyday. Looking forward to enjoying the last bit of summer before we take off on a short getaway and then settle in to the fall routine.
