Having Fun - Outside or Inside

The weather has been feeling like summer and we have been trying to get out to enjoy it as much as possible. Last week we went to a spray park with the moms and tots group. Jaret had so much fun and is looking forward to his next trip to a spray park. We've been getting out for walks and hanging out around the neighbourhood with Jaret riding his bike. We have also been spending lots of time in the backyard. Kirra usually naps in her swing on the deck (it's well shaded). Jaret likes to play in the sprinkler, splash in his paddling pool, play in the sand under his playset or just play around and explore. I am usually out there enjoying the sun while reading a book. Jaret has been showing a fear of bugs lately so when I found a ladybug in the yard, I decided to take advantage of the opportunity to show Jaret that bugs are okay and let him hold the ladybug. He ended up playing with the ladybug and letting it crawl on him for almost an hour. Not sure it totally helped his fear of bugs, but it is a start.
This past Sunday was a beautiful day and we decided to take advantage of the nice weather and spend the day at Calaway Park. Jaret loves the little roller coaster and wishes already that he was big enough to go on the big roller coaster. Jaret and Terry went on the log ride and loved it! But they only went once as the line-up took almost 45 minutes. From the smile on Jaret's face though - it was well worth it. We get such joy out of seeing the joy he experiences.
When the weather is too breezy to be outside, we stay inside. We've been doing our regular trips to the library again and Jaret loves to sit on the couch and read books - together or on his own. It is so cute to listen to him read. I got a great little clip of him reading "Polar Bear, Polar Bear, What Do You Hear?" If I can't download it on the blog, I will post it on facebook. He also likes to paint, colour, or play with stickers. I got some great shots showing our little Picasso at work while painting a couple of weeks ago. Jaret is definately starting to show his independence as he likes to do games on the computer all by himself - all educational of course.
Well, I must end this post as I have packing to do. We are driving to Regina tomorrow to visit my family. I will stay there with the kids into next week. We have plans to make a daytrip to Saskatoon to visit his dad in the hospital. He has been in the hospital for about 10 days and just had bypass surgery this morning. Our prayers are with him and we are still waiting to hear how the surgery went. Terry will then catch a ride home with a colleague from Saskatoon. I will then be on my own to travel home with both kids and am a little nervous but hope that all goes well. We are really looking forward to our trip!
