An Unexpected Visit

My Mom and Grandmother flew out from Saskatchewan on Saturday. Unfortunately they were here to attend a funeral of a dear friend. Paul Nickell passed away from cancer and the funeral was on Monday afternoon. The timing of being on spring break worked well as I was able to spend time visiting with them. My Mom is in a cast since she has a fractured bone in her ankle. Jaret enjoyed decorating Grandma's cast the first day she was here. Not that you could really see his artwork with the cast being a darker colour. But Jaret was very proud of the sun that he coloured. Due to Mom being in a cast, we took it pretty easy - not much shopping - which was probably a disappointment to Mom seeing as she likes to shop. Mom and Grandma flew out on Wednesday morning.
Sunday Jaret got to go to a birthday party. Terry got an invite from the Dean who he works with. It was his grand-daughter's birthday. It was quite the party; complete with a clown who did facepainting and balloon animals. Jaret got his face painted as a skunk. He looked really adorable. He has been asking to go back to the play place ever since the party.
Today Jaret and I went to Cardel Place where there was a drop-in play time. Jaret had a blast crawling on the structure that included a big climbing wall and then a slide to slide down. It was difficult pulling him away when it was time to go home and have lunch. He is beginning to really assert his independence more lately - partly due to his age and probably also due to the fact that he knows some changes are just around the corner.
I have really enjoyed my time off - the playdates have been a welcome change, spending time with Jaret, catching up with friends, and taking naps in the afternoon. I am wondering how I am going to go back to work next week - no sleeping in and no afternoon naps will be difficult - lol! I am enjoying the luxury of sleep as I know it will not last once our little princess is born. I had a doctor's appt. this week and found out that our c-section is scheduled for April 29th. So, we have less than one month to go!
Jaret bought his baby sister a pink piggy bank that matches his blue piggy bank this week. I gave him a loonie to put in it but he decided that he was going to put his loonie in as well. He is so sweet and is good at sharing - so far...we'll see how long that lasts. He will be a very good big brother though. He is so caring and thoughtful.
Other exciting news around here - we are looking at a build. We have a walkout-ravine lot on a cul-de-sac in Kincora (just one community over). We have a floorplan and are in the beginning stage of picking out colours for the exterior of the house and a front door (for those of you who know me and my love for doors, you know just how exciting that is!). It is a big step and a little scary but we really would like a home with more room and are very excited about the lot we have. We will keep you updated on the process.
