Lots of Excitement

Jaret and I flew to Saskatoon on Thursday night. Getting there was somewhat eventful, having a short layover in Edmonton and a mix up as to which side of the plane I was to sit on. Jaret and I were on one side of the plane flying out of Calgary, but during the layover, we were assigned to a different seat, on the other side of the plane. However, the flight attendants moved Jaret and I because there are not three oxygen masks on the side of the plane we were sitting on. So, there Jaret and I were, switching seats with a gentleman, while the plane was moving down the runway. That's probably safe! Then Jaret got sick before we landed in Saskatoon. He really was a mess - poor thing. But, we cleaned up and I put his jacket on so he didn't look so bad. I was hoping to change him as soon as we got to Saskatoon but, that was not to be since Air Canada decided to leave my luggage in Edmonton (at least that's what we think happened - that it never made it back on the plane during the layover). Talk about a hassle. We did get my luggage the next day - didn't wait for the courier to bring it but went and picked it up at the airport - thanks Mom! I wanted to ensure that I had a dress to wear for the wedding.
Speaking of the wedding...Ashley and Ken's wedding was absolutely beautiful. The two of them are so happy and in love. The wedding was at The Bez. The ballroom was set up very nice for the ceremony and felt very intimate. Then the room was transformed in a couple of hours for the reception and dance. It looked stunning! We had such a great time. Many laughs were shared, as well as happy tears shed. The night flew by - maybe it was all the dancing. I can't remember when I danced so much! It was fabulous!
During our time there, it was fun to be able to stop at the school and see the staff and some of my former students. It really felt great to be back, even if it was for just a short visit. It was also nice seeing a couple of my friends on Saturday for lunch - sorry that our lunch was cut so short by a very tired and unhappy Jaret. Just to let you know girls, as soon as I got Jaret into the car seat, he fell asleep. I hope to make it to Saskatoon the second week of July for a bit so I can have more time to visit and get a chance to see a few more friends.
As the weekend began with the excitement of the lost luggage, it had to end on a similar note. No, not with more lost luggage, but with some excitement. My grandmother had left for Regina and my family was to lock up when we left. In the meantime, while packing up, Jaret was playing in the kitchen and found my grandmother's Securteck alarm system and after pushing a few buttons, set the alarm off. The noise of course frigthened him so I took him outside to calm him down. The alarm company called and we told them what had happened. But a few minutes later, an officer was at the front door. He was very prompt! He was also very thorough and checked each room before he left. He also had back-up arrive fairly quickly - Jaret and I were outside as two other cars pulled up. It was very exciting and it had half the neighbourhood wondering what was going on. After the officer checked the house over, he showed Jaret his car. Jaret wasn't as interested as he normally might have been - he was a little shaken up by the whole incident and was wondering what was going on. If only he knew what he had caused...
It was an enjoyable weekend. Thanks to my grandmother who watched Jaret a few times over the course of the weekend. Thank you also to Heather and Adam; Jaret had so much fun at your house on Friday afternoon. Thanks!
Of course, while I was away, our friends Mark and Shea had their baby. I told Shea that she wasn't allowed to go into labour while I was away for the weekend, but I guess Baby Tys had other plans. He was born Saturday morning at 4:30 am. McKinley Parker will be a fun, little playmate for Jaret - once he gets a little older and once Jaret warms up to him. Jaret is really not sure what to think of him and seemed to get a little jealous of mom holding him - we of course had to stop and meet him right after arriving home! Congratulations Mark and Shea! Welcome to parenthood - there is nothing else like it!
