Grateful Being a Mom, Even in Life's Everyday Moments

Maybe instead of even in life's everyday moments it should say because of life's everyday moments. I am grateful to be a mom because of life's everyday moments - from the simple moments to the moments that are celebrated.

It isn't always easy to appreciate the everyday moments. There are everyday moments that are easy to savour and then there are others that can sometimes push us over the edge as moms. You know the ones I am referring to. I am sure you have had them, right?

I had a moment this week where I had to say one to many times - STOP. It was a day like any other and both my kids were having fun fooling around which is something to celebrate; they weren't fighting, they were having fun TOGETHER. However, the noise and how rowdy it was getting all while I was working in the kitchen was too much and I told them to  STOP and either take it outside or into the basement. But at the end of the day, I smile when I witness how well they get along with each other and that Kirra can hold her own pretty well when rough housing with Jaret. So part of me wanted to savour the moment knowing it would be gone too soon but the tired part of me also needed some peace and they both needed some boundaries with the reminder not to take things too far.

It is much too easy for routine to take over our every day lives and for us to take simple moments for granted. Moments that matter. Moments that we should be grateful for. But instead, we are tired. We are overwhelmed with too much on the go. And we take those moments for granted.

This week I came across a letter, written by a 27 year old woman who wrote it before her passing. The letter is a reminder of what is important in life. In the letter, she speaks about being grateful for the minor issues you face in life and to get over them because you are blessed - to change your outlook, to be grateful, and stop "whinging." She reminds us to stop with the materialism because it doesn't matter but what does matter is the time we spend with those we love, experiencing life together and helping others.  Holly Butcher's Letter

love them with everything you have." ~Holly Butcher

I think we all need to be reminded that our life is a gift and we don't know how much time we have. I am grateful to be a Mom because of life's everyday moments. The difficult moments at the end of the day when there is homework and there is supper to make and when we are all tired. And in each of those moments, I choose to be grateful. And then there are the everyday moments that are good and it is easy to show gratitude - moments like when someone compliments the character they see in your children or when you see that character in action when they are showing God's love.

At the beginning of the week, I was in a meeting. We were doing some professional development on communication and in pairs, one of the asks was to share something we were looking forward to in our week. I shared a couple of things but one that I shared was that I was looking forward to Halloween. Not because I like Halloween because out of all of the holidays, I really don't like Halloween. However, I was looking forward to the time with my kids. To seeing Kirra dress up as Wonder Woman, knowing that we only have a couple of years left before these moments will be gone and so I wanted to take the time to savour and enjoy the time. Jaret no longer goes trick or treating so we handed out candy, while Kirra went trick or treating with Terry, and then I took the kids to the church for the annual carnival where Jaret volunteered with the toddlers. My heart was full seeing how well he did volunteering at the bouncy castle station and afterward he shared that he really enjoyed serving and helping others. Moments to be grateful for as a mom.

I pray that you are able to enjoy life's everyday moments as you begin your week. Enjoy the relationship with others and experience life with gratitude!

She likes her treats but has been good to share
with her brother (and maybe her parents a little too).

For fun, Jaret is working on memorizing
as many numbers for Pi as possible
(there are 22 trillion+ in case you were wondering).
