Job...Mom

Being a mom is one of the greatest jobs ever. And also the most challenging. There are times when I feel I am doing it right and times when I know I have utterly failed. I am thankful for God's discernment in parenting and the guidance He gives me each day to fulfill the duties of being MOM!

I recently did a devotion through YouVersion entitled, "She is...Mom." It took me through ten days and each day it described an aspect being a mom and the many jobs we have as moms.

Chauffeur
Getting our children to their many destinations and how in life we have the important job of helping our children find the right direction or destination in life. Modelling this daily helps our children know the direction God wants for them - GPS of God's Word to help them with their roadmap of life.

Comedienne
Brining happiness to our children's life through joy and laughter. Celebrating the small things in life - dancing to music in the living room or singing silly songs or telling jokes. Learning to laugh with our kids is something we can all use more of. Teaching children to celebrate through laughter so that home is a place they want to be.

Mailman
Receiving important information should come from the home so keep communication open, allowing children to ask questions to help them learn and develop their worldview. We can turn many questions into opportunities for learning and growth.

Cheerleader
As mom we must believe in our children wholeheartedly and cheer them on, whether they are winning or losing in sport or life. Be your child's biggest fan and cheer loudly (even if it embarrasses them a slight bit). Always ensure that your words are covered in love and grace and point them in a healthy direction of life. And in all of this, help them discover their talents and cheer them on as they begin to see themselves as the masterpieces they have been created to be. Be an enthusiastic cheerleader!

Coach
As a coach we need to start designing winning plays to coach our children for victory in the game of life. As moms we must be the loudest voice that helps to guide and ensures that our children are acting out the play to the best of their ability. This includes rehearsing scenarios with them that they will face so that when they face them, they are ready.

Travel Agent
Preparing our children for their journey into adulthood means we must research and then educate our children for what awaits them beyond the walls of our home. This includes warning them of potential dangers such as how unforgiveness will make them resentful and bitter. Helping our children plan for the exploration and then waves good-bye. This letting go which is not always easy. Letting go that I experienced on a small scale saying good-by to Jaret at camp in Chilliwack and then leaving Kirra behind with my friend Pam while I headed home to work. These moments are not easy and with the kids arriving home tomorrow, I am beyond excited to see them both.

Warrior
A mom is a prayer warrior - she fights on her knees. There is nothing more powerful than the power of prayer. Holding our children up in prayer throughout their lives is the most important job we have.

Director of Homeland Security
I love this official sounding title and laughed when I first read it. It's great, isn't it? Each of us moms need to create a resume with some new job titles.
We are called to protect our children and wage a war for the destinies of our children. As moms, we are given wisdom and discernment over our home and children. We are the ones who help to keep our home safe for our children. As moms we need to trust our intuition.

A Wardrobe Stylist
Not just physically what out children wear and teaching them modesty but more than that is helping our children clothe themselves with heart habits and positive traits/attitudes. Depth of character will help our children to be the best and most beautiful/handsome version of themselves. When they display the fruit of the spirit in their lives, they will radiate love and joy. That never goes out of style.

A Cartographer
A cartographer is a person who makes maps and a mom needs to be attune to setting boundaries for her children. Although not always easy, the pay off is worth it. Consistency is key to keeping boundaries in place so that children aren't confused by by the expectations.

Love being a mom. And I love chatting with other moms and listening. I appreciate being able to discern how to be a better mom through learning from experiences of other moms. As I mentioned earlier, I spent some time in Chilliwack with my friend Pam. She is an excellent mom to three boys. I was grateful for our time together but also appreciate her willingness to have Kirra stay with her for a few days while I returned home to work. Thanks, Pam!
