Terry has been doing much more traveling with the role of Acting CEO. That makes life in our household a little more crazy. Terry didn't mind travelling for work in the past but every other week has been a bit much lately. With the stage of life we are at, it makes it difficult for me to be able to do everything and I have learned to admit that I can't. I can't do everything. Thankfully, my mom has been able to come and help out a bit. This helps relieve the pressure when needing to get Kirra to dance on the same night that Jaret has diving or youth group at church, not to mention the homework load. I feel some days like I would make a great circus performer with all the balls I am juggling, until I am dropping them all over the place. Oh wait a second, Terry was always the juggler. Literally, he can juggle!
Mom was here a couple of weeks ago to help out and then Dad flew out for the weekend as he had a Dental Study Club. Since they were here when the Riders played the Stamps, we went to the game, along with Darryl and Leanne. It was cold and miserable, complete with rain, snow, and wind. But the Riders pulled off a magnificent win!!
Later in the weekend, it was time to celebrate October Birthdays for Dad, Jaret and Terry. We went to Pampa and at first all Kirra wanted was the veggies in the salad bar, until she tried some of the delicious meat. The beff short rib was melt in your mouth tender. The cost for what Kirra ate was pricey and not likely something we would do again with the kids. Although, not sure we can tell them that since they really liked the atmosphere and the food. We can tell Jaret is growing as he ate his fair share, possibly even more than I did.
While my parents were here, Jaret wanted to take advantage of the number of people to play one of his favourite card games - Scum. So we played a little Scum while they were here and Jaret did quite well with being President. We then had company the following weekend on Friday night and all Jaret wanted to do was play...more Scum. He gets a little focused when something gets in his head. Is it wrong that he was praying that he would be President?! So Scum, visiting, and Mocha Chocolate Cake to celebrate Terry's birthday with friends was a great way to spend a Friday Night.
The rest of the weekend was full of some great sports - Rider win, Seahawk win with an amazing football game, and an Astros win in one of the best ball games in history, or so it is being called. Jaret actually is considering the Huston Astros as his new favourite baseball team. All I can think is that we will have to replace half his wardrobe if he indeed makes this change.
And that brings us to another busy Tuesday evening with Terry away again. But, a little easier with no dance and no diving. That left Kirra and I to trick or treat and then attend the Carnival at church. Jaret decided that despite the fact some of his classmates were trick or treating, he was too old for it. After all, he knew that if he wanted some chocolate, I would likely go out and buy him some. And so he got to eat some peanut butter cups while home for the evening. His grown up attitude and maturity made me smile but not trick or treating tugged at my heart. Last year he was sick for Halloween and then this year, he seemed to have just grown up overnight. I missed the enjoyment of his last Halloween a couple of years ago and didn't even realize it was the last. Instead, he stayed home to study for a Science test and watch Game 6 in the World Series. He has his priorities.
Life in this season is a little unexpected and not what we had planned. However, through it all, we know who holds the plan. And so we trust. And we adjust as life deviates from our plan. And we take each day one day at a time. And as a friend reminded me today, we "use only the grace for today!" Thankful for God's grace today. Thankful for His grace in this season.
