Merry Christmas From Our House to Yours

It’s the most wonderful time of the year!  I must admit, I revelled in setting up the Christmas tree earlier than usual this year as I love Christmas time.  It is such a blessing to celebrate Christ’s birth and to be able to establish traditions as a family.  Last week, Jaret and Kirra had their Christmas concert at school. It was bittersweet as it was Jaret’s last Christmas concert but it was wonderfully done and the true meaning of Christmas was heard by all.  It was the perfect way to start the Christmas season.

This past year was full of many blessings...

In January we spent two weeks in Maui.  Terry’s brother Kim and wife Jackie joined us along with their son Justin and his family, Vanessa, Jayden and Kaydra.  We love Maui and the family time we have there.  Paradise just never gets old!

Jaret continues to play community basketball.  Last season his team won their division championship.

This season is nearing the halfway point and his team is undefeated thus far.  After Jaret showed no fear of cliff jumping in Maui last year, we enrolled him in Rocky Mountain Diving Club in the spring.  He enrolled again this fall and in January will be at it again in Novice twice a week.  One of his goals before he turned ten was to jump off the 10 metre platform, which he accomplished this fall. Jaret enjoyed baseball in the summer with Terry being assistant coach with friend, Jamie.  It was a tough season but Jaret made some great friends.  Jaret is in now in Grade 4 and can’t get enough math and science.

Kirra is our little artist.  You can often find her sitting in the middle of the kitchen floor colouring, cutting, pasting, and being creative.  She is a little dancer, having taken tiny toes dance last year and is currently enrolled in dancenastics - dance and gymnastics together, what could be better? Kirra also played soccer this spring and really enjoyed it.  She also spent lots of time riding her bike this spring and summer.  And when she wasn’t riding her bike she was jumping on the trampoline.  Kirra is active and sporty.  Kirra lost her first lost tooth in July and when her second one fell out a month later, she and I had a conversation about the tooth fairy.  Our chat ended in Kirra informing me she doesn’t believe in the Tooth Fairy, Easter Bunny, or Santa.  But, she still likes to play along.  Through school, Kirra is in baking class each week and is having so much fun becoming a little chef.  Kirra loves school and is becoming quite the reader and reads constantly.

Terry kept really busy this spring and summer with helping to develop our yard into the oasis that it now is.  Many hours since have been spent enjoying our yard while sitting around the fire pit.  Terry continues to work from home for Compute Canada and was just recently promoted to national Director of Finance for the organization.  Don’t ask me what they do...I think it’s classified!  Terry also found a way to merge his love of history and his accounting background as he joined the Board of Fort Calgary in a volunteer capacity.

Jenn returned to work this year as Resource Director at Bearspaw Christian School and then this fall, back into the role of Elementary Vice-Principal (80% which means one day off a week - which doesn’t always happen but still a work in progress).  I completed two half marathons this year and hope to do the same next year, despite having taken a break from running (Calgary & Vancouver).  This year was a big year as I turned 40.  Terry did really well and even planned a surprise party for me where some fabulous friends joined for the celebrations.

We continue to enjoy the mountains.  We did some skiing as a family last winter, hiking in the summer, and even biked from Banff to Canmore in the summer when Terry’s brother and Jackie visited.
Other travelling this year included:
-Terry and Jaret to Seattle for a boy’s weekend to take in a couple of Mariner’s games
-An unexpected trip to SK in June due to Terry’s Grandma’s passing, wonderful to see family
-Shuswaps with Tysdal Family (annual holiday)
-Weekend away for Terry and Jenn to Victoria and Seattle - Jenn saw her first Seahawks game

Wishing you and yours a most blessed Christmas season - full of love, joy, peace, and happiness.

Much Love,
Terry, Jenn, Jaret & Kirra
