Feed the Need

On Friday, the kids were a part of the Feed the Need pep rally at our school.  It was to introduce them to a fundraising campaign that is meant to help raise money for our school while also helping children and families in Haiti.  After the pep rally, the kids were eager to get involved in anyway they could to help.  They were touched by the video they watched about kids who often eat only every other day and when they do eat, often fill their bellies with dirt cookies that provide no nourishment at all.  It was interesting the appreciation they had for supper that evening and the comments about how fortunate they are compared to the kids in Haiti.

Last night, Bearspaw Christian School held a kick-off event to communicate to parents the importance of discipleship at our school and the impact it has on our children and students.  A video of our very own students was used to show the impact discipleship is already having on our secondary students.  As our president spoke, he talked about how discipleship with our students changes everything.  And it truly does as it helps to transform their heart and mind as they live according to God's will and offer their lives as living sacrifices.

And Terry and I both see the impact with our kids.  In fact, just the other night, Kirra and I were reading a book called, "The Pine Tree Parable."  The book was a gift to the kids a few years back from my friend, Sherrille.  The story is about a family who owns a farm and at Christmas, they sell Christmas trees.  As their children grew over the years, there was always one tree that was not for sale as they watched it grow as their children grew.  We came to a part in the story where the farmer's wife gifts the tree that was not for sale to a poor family.  I paused and asked Kirra what she thought of that.  Her response, as she put her hands to her face and her jaw dropped was, "I think that lady was showing all the fruits of the spirit."  It made my heart melt.  I love that my children understand the fruit of the spirit and can recognize what it looks like in people's lives.

Each month the elementary students are focusing on a fruit of the spirit.  As it was introduced to them at the beginning of the year, they were asked to think about which fruit of the spirit they display in their life and which fruit of the spirit they need some work on.  Kirra chose to focus on kindness.  When I challenged her on this she said that she knows she is kind to others but that she needs to work on being kind to her brother.  We therefore agreed that perhaps showing patience, especially with her brother, might be a better focus and would also help her to be kind.  Jaret and I both agreed that we also need to work on patience as sometimes we get easily frustrated.  It is wonderful to be able to talk about our strengths and the areas that need work in our life. And being able to pray and ask the Holy Spirit to do his work in our lives will help us to grow in the fruit of the spirit.  Last week at church, Jaret wrote out a prayer praising God for how powerful and strong He was.  In the prayer he thanked God for his family and home and apologized for fighting with his sister.   He also asked for prayer for his second cousin, Jayden.  Jayden's body seems to be rejecting the factor he takes for his hemophilia so we have been praying about that regularly as a family.

Indeed we see our children growing to be more Christ-like but we know it is due to the school, church, and home that make this happen and we are so blessed to be part of a great school and church community that values raising up kids to be Godly stewards.

In a few weeks we are participating in a very special event that is not just another fundraiser - it’s part of something much bigger! Bearspaw Christian School will host its first Feed the Need Packing Event! Bearspaw Christian School is excited about this event, not only because it is a tool to provide much needed funding for our school, but also because we will pack, seal, and box over 10,000 meals for children in Haiti!  Kirra and Jaret are very excited about the opportunity to help children in Haiti and are eager to participate in the packing event.  Bearspaw Christian School’s mission is “Joining with the Family to Realize Personal Academic Excellence and Christ-like Character in Each Student.” Funds raised from this event will help continue the development of Bible curriculum and a discipleship culture, and your participation will be a valuable investment in the lives of over 740 students at Bearspaw Christian School!

Would you sponsor us?  Our family's goal is to raise $1,500 in personal sponsorships through friends and family.  As a family we have made a contribution toward our goal and Jaret is also taking a portion of his birthday money to contribute as well.  We would like to invite you to join us as a financial sponsor.  Your help will truly make a difference for Bearspaw Christian School's students and hungry children overseas!
