Quick Visit

My parents and Justine spent the weekend on a little weekend getaway to the mountains and so the kids and I decided to join them for a quick visit on Sunday.  It was a cool and overcast day but even when conditions such as this exist, it is still beautiful in the mountains.  They stayed at the Delta Kananaskis so we drove to meet them at the resort and then from there drove into Banff for lunch.   We did a little walking through shops and of course stopped for treats at Banff Candy Store and The Fudgery.  After our brief time in Banff we drove back to Kananaskis via the Smith-Dorrien Spray Lakes Trail.  This scenic route took quite a bit to drive due to it being longer; the roads are a windy and not paved so you also have to slow your speed.  The long drive was worth it though to see such beautiful scenery and we also saw wildlife which is so rarely seen on the main highway.  We saw many deer, a moose (almost didn't believe Justine on that one so turned around to go back), and a herd of mountain goats.  We ended the day and our visit with a dip in the pool and hot tub.  With the cooler weather and it feeling like fall, Kirra remarked, "It feels like fall.  Summer must be over.  I'll miss you flip flops!"  And yes, we will miss summer but there is always something so comforting about fall too. The kids were glad they could spend some time with family and they always love being in the mountains.
