Rocky Mountain Soap Run 2015

This run is going to be a tradition for years to come.  This is my second year running this race with my friend, Nichole.  And I love this race - mostly.  It is a gruelling race as we do a 5K loop twice and there are some major hills with it being in the mountains at Canmore Nordic Centre.  Sometimes when you don't know what to expect, that is actually a good thing.  But doing the loop twice means you know how steep those hills are.  Walking/hiking hills is hard enough but running them is another story.  The views and scenery of this run are absolutely and the race is well organized which makes it a fabulous run.  Add in an overnight getaway with some friends with some shopping and good food and wine in the mountains and who wouldn't want to make it tradition?

The race was difficult.  I walked more than I wanted but found I was having a really tough time breathing.  I am hoping that having a tough run like that behind me means I will have a much better run next weekend when I run my half.  I finished the 10K in 1:04:18 which was slower than last year. But it was good to be part of the race.  The great part is finishing the race and being handed a scented rolled up washcloth.  It is so refreshing!  Follow that with music, checking out the tents, and a great meal to top it all off.

Kelly joined us after the race to spend the rest of the weekend with us.  Our time in Canmore included a dip in the hot tub that didn't last long because it was a hot and sunny day.  The weather was perfect.  A little shopping the quaint shops of Canmore, including a stop at our favourite jean shop.  We then had some drinks and appetizers on the deck of our resort before we headed to The Trough for a delicious meal and some great conversation and laughs.  A wonderful weekend! Looking forward to many more weekends just like this every May.
