Another special moment for Jaret happened this weekend at a basketball game. When Jaret first started basketball this year, having never played, he was having difficulty even knowing how the game was played and didn't the skills that some of the other kids possessed, kids who played in previous years. Jaret showed up to his game on Saturday and there were only four of them. The other team had all their players and they were big boys, especially in comparison to Jaret's stature. Jaret and the three other boys on his team played the whole game through with no breaks. They played with heart, they played with passion, they played hard, and they played as a team. It was such a joy to watch. Jaret also scored his first basket - a penalty shot. I loved seeing him score and loved seeing his strong defense in the game, despite being dwarfed by some of the boys he was defending. Thunder won their first game 29-9. What a thrill it was for the boys to win, especially with the teamwork they put into their game!
Kirra has been learning to read and I love listening to her sound out her words as she learns to read. She now knows her letters and the sounds they make. She is learning her sight words and is doing wonderful with how many she knows. Mrs. Klein recently sent home some pages that had words for Kirra to sound out and read as well as some sentences. Kirra has been diligent about practicing. She is proud that she can even read books, like "Brown Bear, Brown Bear" and some LeapFrog Phonics books that she has been reading every day. It is fun to see her grasping the concept of reading and how excited she is as she points letters out everywhere around her. These are special moments that make me love being a mom!
