Last Bit of Summer

The long weekend is over and that brings summer to a close as well with school starting tomorrow. Although, I hope that the warm weather will last well into September so we can enjoy some time outdoors after school and on weekends.  And perhaps to buy some trees and start some landscaping in the yard.

Over the last week of summer we have enjoyed being outdoors.  We have been to the park to play, bike rides, and a hike in Kananaskis.  Jaret has always loved riding his bike and he especially likes riding his new bike.  We have been on a couple of bike rides down by the river from Edworthy Park to Eau Claire.  Kirra hangs out in the trailer, pulled by Terry, as she is not at the stage to handle such a long bike ride.  However, Kirra's training wheels are now off and we are working with her to get better at riding a two wheeler so she can get a new bike in the spring and be confident on just two wheels.  Hopefully I can snap some footage of her on her bike soon to share.

We enjoyed a hike to Troll Falls.  This hike is located at the foot of Nakiska ski hill and in the winter one can cross country ski these trails.  It is a perfect hike for young kids because the distance isn't far and the elevation isn't difficult.  In fact, it is quite flat most of the way with wide pathways.  On the path leading to the falls is a bridge, and since it is called Troll Falls, wouldn't it make sense that a troll lived under this bridge.  The kids checked under both sides and Jaret even crawled right under to check but alas, no troll.  The path only becomes a bit more challenging with it's rugged path as you near the falls.  Jaret had no problems but for safety, we helped Kirra on these parts.  It is said you can actually go behind the falls but it seemed a little too slippery from the spray of the falls to attempt this.  One thing we did do that was a little crazy was climb a steep path to the top, crossed the rocky stream, and then went down the other side of the falls.  This was a challenge but was a neat perspective and allowed us to see a hidden falls further up from the main one.

And that is summer...
