Terry and I had a great time in Vegas! However, it was confirmed that we won't become regulars to Vegas. Although we enjoyed our experience there, we are much more suited to quieter locales where you can still shop, dine, and relax. We arrived on Thursday around noon and headed to our hotel - The Mirage. I would say we headed straight there, but our taxi driver took a round about way to earn himself a few extra bucks. Ugh. What do you even do when you know a taxi driver has taken advantage of you this way? We checked into our hotel and then went for lunch at Gordon Ramsay's BurGR - Planet Hollywood. It was a good experience overall - the sweet Maui onion rings were delicious. Terry was happier with his burger than I was with mine. I had to ask for a side of cheddar cheese as I didn't know that American cheddar was not really cheddar. Oops - lesson learned. After lunch we walked around Planet Hollywood. We tried our first bit of slots with a free $5 card and walked away with $14.80 - big score, hey? Unfortunately, I had a strong headache come on and I was asleep early that night. Terry went out on his own for the evening and tried his hand at Blackjack. He didn't do so well but enjoyed meeting a father and son from Alberta.
Friday we shopped the Las Vegas Premium Outlets North. We both did well from jeans, to sunglasses, to shoes, shirts, and a couple of dresses for me. We also visited The Disney Store and got some cute pjs for the kids. After our day of shopping, we caught a cab with a nice couple from Australia. They were close to the front of the long line and so we thought, why not share the cost of a cab to the strip and jump the que? We had a fabulous supper at PF Chang's as we had been looking forward to it for so long. The evening was spent walking around some more shops and people watching at hotels/casinos.
Saturday morning we walked to the Coca-Cola Store but didn't spend much time there since I am a Pepsi girl. Haha! We then went next door and spent time at the M & M Store. What a fun place! We know our kids would love it too! After lunch Terry was off to watch the Seahawks vs. Saints game. He was very happy about their win and the fact that they are playing in the NFC Championship next weekend. While he watched the game, I got pampered for our night out by getting a manicure, my hair curled, and make-up done. We had supper at Trevi - an Italian restaurant in Caesar's Palace. Then it was time for the big concert and our evening with Celine Dion! The concert was amazing! Celine has such a powerful voice, amazing stage presence (especially with the many dress changes and how she struts around the stage), and knows how to interact with the audience by allowing us to see into her life and who she is. There were a number of times when I got teary over the amazing experience. It was such a dream to see her in this venue! What a night! After the concert, we walked through the Bellagio, making a stop at Jean Phillipe Chocolates and then enjoyed the fabulous fountain show out front of the hotel.
The time went by quickly as we flew out on Sunday. However, we had come and we had seen and we were ready to get home to cuddles from the kids. We so appreciate my Mom watching the kids for us and keeping them entertained for the few days we were gone. The good news was that she said we need to do it more often - sounds like an offer to take care of the kids again, don't you think?
Thanks for the wonderful gift, Terry! It was a huge surprise and I really enjoyed the time away with you. Feeling so very blessed.
