Family Day Weekend

We stayed around Calgary for our Family Day Weekend. It was a quiet and rather uneventful weekend which was just what we needed. It seems we need those a lot with the stage of life we are at having young children as life does get tiring.
Friday night we ordered pizza and planned a movie night. Jaret was excited to cuddle up, eat popcorn, and watch Beauty and the Beast. But the funniest thing was that even before the movie was over, and only around 8 o'clock, he said, "Okay it's time for bed."
"But Jaret, the movie isn't over," I replied.
"You can stay up later to watch it," Terry added.
"No, it is dark out and getting late. It is time for me to get to bed. I don't want to get sick so I need to get my sleep." And upstairs he ran to brush teeth and hop into bed.
Who's kid is this? A kid that basically parents himself and doesn't take advantage of staying up late to watch a movie. We thought it was strange but cute. And it really is Jaret. He is a good kid who is usually quite responsible to follow the rules.
Saturday was spent doing laundry and cleaning the house from top to bottom. So, it was a pretty boring day. Lexi came over to babysit for the evening while Terry and I went to a movie. We saw, "This Means War." It was a cute movie and the first time in a long time that we had gone to a movie.
Sunday morning we were up early to meet Mark and Shea and the boys at Cora for breakfast. We had planned to have a games night but that wasn't going to work for them so this was the next best option to spend some time together. The rest of the day was spent doing a little shopping - ski boots for Jaret and a new ski jacket for me. Then while the boys played some games and Kirra watched, I had a Sunday afternoon nap. My neck was really bothering me, not sure what I did to it but doesn't a nap help everything?
Monday was Family Day and so we spent it as a family. I love long weekends! Terry went out for breakfast with a friend and the kids and I just hung out in our pj's and took our time getting ready for the day because that's what long weekends are for, right? Then in the afternoon, we went to the Calgary Tower. I can't believe that in all the years we have lived here, we had never taken Jaret there. I recall Terry trying to take me on a date there years ago - dessert in the rotating restaurant. It was not so enjoyable as my motion sickness is even bothered by the slight turning of the restaurant. Go figure?! Anyway, at first Jaret didn't want to step on the glass floor but then he got more brave and was fine to stand on it. Kirra didn't take long to warm up to it which surprised me since she is the baby and sometimes acts like it. But, we are coaxing her to be more independent in all things.
After spending time at the top of the Calgary Tower, we went to Chapters and enjoyed a Starbucks and hanging out looking at books and playing in the kid section. It was a great end to the day.
Happy Family Day Everyone! May you not just spend time as a family on Family Day but make that time throughout the year and celebrate special moments together!
