Fatherhood

Happy Father's Day to all you Dads out there!

We had a relaxing Father's Day. We went to Starbuck's for a coffee date as a family. Then as we were driving home decided to go to Chapter's. Jaret loves to play in the little play area - they have a Thomas the Train table set up. And Terry read a book while I browsed and Kirra slept. It was a nice, laid back day.

"Until you have a son of your own... you will never know the joy, the love beyond feeling that resonates in the heart of a father as he looks upon his son. You will never know the sense of honor that makes a man want to be more than he is and to pass something good and hopeful into the hands of his son." -Kent Nerburn

What an honour it is to be a parent. With all its ups and downs, it truly is a gift. I am so thankful that we are blessed to be parents to Jaret and Kirra. I only pray that over the years of raising them, that we can do a great job and that years from now, they will both forgive us for the mistakes we made upon the way.

Terry is a great Dad, even though I joke that he has only changed two of Kirra's diapers so far. And to his defense he says, "Men typically only change 1 out of every 10 diapers."

"Well then," I reply, "you have a lot of catching up to do."

"I changed more with Jaret. Probably 3 out of every 10 so I am averaging pretty well."

I laugh at his response - always so witty! However, with having two children now, it does mean adjusting a little. Kirra needs my attention with feeding and so when I am busy in that way (which seems constant some days), Terry is keeping Jaret occupied and attending to his needs.

Happy Father's Day, Terry! Thank you for being a great Dad to both of our children.
